Job Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled COBOL Developer to join our energy client's dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be capable of working independently, collaborating effectively with IT and business team members across multiple generations, and taking initiative in asking questions to subject matter experts. This role requires a proactive approach to troubleshooting and resolving issues, analyzing and understanding existing code, and writing and testing new code. Additionally, the candidate must be familiar with various testing methodologies and able to document all changes meticulously. Knowledge of assembler or the willingness to train in it is essential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Independent Work: Ability to work independently, managing tasks and projects without constant supervision.
  • Collaborative Communication: Comfortable working with IT and business team members spanning multiple generations to ensure smooth collaboration and effective communication.
  • Proactive Inquiry: Proactively ask questions and seek clarification from subject matter experts to ensure a deep understanding of project requirements and constraints.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify, analyze, and resolve issues, seeing them through to resolution to maintain system integrity and performance.
  • Code Analysis and Development: Analyze and understand existing code bases and develop new code as required. Ensure that all code is tested thoroughly before deployment.
  • Testing Proficiency: Familiar with different types of testing, including unit, system, and user acceptance testing (UAT). Write comprehensive test cases, capture detailed test results, and collaborate with the business team during UAT.
  • Documentation: Document all changes and updates meticulously to maintain clear and comprehensive records.
  • Meeting Participation: Attend meetings as required to stay updated on project progress, team developments, and organizational changes.
  • Assembler Knowledge: Possess knowledge of assembler or demonstrate a willingness to train in it, contributing to system-level programming tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

****Required: energy industry experience****
  • COBOL, JCL, VSAM, DB2
  • Proven experience as a Software Developer or similar role.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in writing and testing code in relevant programming languages.
  • Familiarity with various testing methodologies and the ability to write and execute test cases.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with diverse teams.
  • Detail-oriented with strong documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of assembler or a strong willingness to train and learn it.
