SUMMARY: The Quoting Engineer/Cost Estimator determines the appropriate machine platform and establishes manufacturing cycle times to generate cost estimates and provide input for product development in a machining environment that ranges from low to high-volume and high-mix. This role involves proactive review of new designs, developing manufacturing estimates to meet cost targets, applying principles of design for manufacturing, identifying standard and innovative manufacturing processes, and supporting continual improvement and quality in product design.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Estimate costs for new parts manufactured on screw machines, hydromat rotary transfer, and CNC machines.
Update existing quotes to reflect raw material changes.
Collaborate with the Quotation Manager to monitor and verify actual vs. quoted costs and identify opportunities for cost and efficiency improvements.
Consult with customers, General Managers, Setup Leads, and Chief Commercial Officer to ensure manufacturability considerations during the design phase.
Continuously enhance processes and procedures by staying informed about manufacturing technologies, advancements in tooling, and industry trends.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Three to five years of experience in quoting, cost estimating, or direct machining/setup/engineering roles in a machine shop or similar industry.
Demonstrated leadership with a positive, team-oriented, and goal-focused approach.
Proficiency in metal machining and finishing processes such as grinding, heat treating, and electroplating.
Experience with CAD/CAM software and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems in a manufacturing setting preferred.
Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T), blueprint reading, and cost breakdowns.
Willingness to engage directly with customers to understand technical requirements and communicate effectively within the team.
