Job Description:
  • As a Senior Acoustics Systems Engineer in our Progeny Business Area, you'll be a member of a cross functional team responsible for the design and development of submarine (VA Class, Columbia Class, and SSN(X)) acoustic systems.
  • You will directly contribute to the technical success of our programs through hands-on technical contributions, leadership and management of an engineering team.
  • This includes advancing the GDMS technical vision, developing people as technical contributors, building the team, and fostering innovation.
  • Candidates will have demonstrated recent, relevant technical contribution to acoustic systems and shown the ability to lead and mentor others.
  • Successful candidates will be excellent communicators, have a passion for technical progress and improvement, intellectually curious, and be strongly motivated to lead and nurture a cross functional team.
  • We encourage you to apply if you have any of these preferred skills and/or a strong understanding and knowledge of acoustics and vibrations, acoustic system, undersea warfare, sensor suites, measurement arrays, submarines and/or submersibles.
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in systems engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field.
  • Also requires 10+ years of job-related experience, or a master's degree plus 8 years of job-related experience. Agile experience preferred.
  • The client is looking for a Senior Acoustics Systems Engineer for our Progeny Business Area.
  • You will be a member of a cross functional team responsible for the design and development of submarine (VA Class, Columbia Class, and SSN(X)) acoustic systems and directly contribute to the technical success of our programs through hands-on technical contributions, leadership and management of an engineering team.

Duties and Tasks:
  • Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
  • Performs technical activities which impact the proposal, system level design, detail design and manufacture of advanced electronics systems.
  • Oversees operational aspects of ongoing projects and serves as liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line management.
  • Review's project status and budgets, manages schedules, and prepares status reports.
  • Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet client-satisfaction goals and objectives.
  • Leads development of strategic tasks or small projects by applying engineering and organizational knowledge and expertise to achieve technical goals and objectives.
  • Understands and interprets the technical, organizational and process aspects of the task assigned and can relate them to the technical needs of the overall large project.
  • Responsible for the completion of assigned engineering tasks or small projects within budgetary and scheduling guidelines.
  • Actively uncovers technical and organizational risks and ensures they are included in risk mitigation plans.
  • Participates in engineering development of program strategies and teaming strategies as they relate to the assigned task.
  • Drives continuous improvement throughout the group and processes.

  • Strong ability to lead, mentor, and motivate experienced technical staff.
  • Ahead of technology trends with Research & Development (R&D) experience.
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills with demonstrated success leading design teams for complex projects.
  • Team player committed to ongoing professional development for yourself and others.
  • Motivated to drive innovation in design architectures, assembly, component selection, and electronics design.
  • Experienced in technical project and program management.
  • Effectively communicates technical and programmatic matters to senior level management, program offices, and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Experience in analysis of complex acoustic and/or vibration applications and installations on submarines.
  • Has respect of peers and colleagues for technical and management credibility.
