Summary of Position

The Industrial Automation Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of automation projects within the company's manufacturing environment. This position requires a strong understanding and practical application of MES technologies, including automated data collection, historian applications, visualization, quality and efficiency in manufacturing, SCADA, automated decision control, workflow, database applications, scheduling, and interface to ERP systems. The Industrial Automation Engineer will be responsible for executing projects from concept to realization, focusing primarily on controls and integration-based projects to enhance the existing manufacturing line.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Development and continuous improvement of MES systems, including automated data collection, historian applications, visualization, quality and efficiency in manufacturing, SCADA, automated decision control, workflow, database applications, scheduling, and interface to ERP systems

Working knowledge of PLCs and HMIs

Experience with SQL programming and databases, providing technical support and troubleshooting services to Maintenance and Operations departments as required.

Perform high level technical analysis activities, such as requirements gathering and gap analysis of user requirements

Assist with defining MES solution architectures and develops detailed design specifications for PV cell (and solar panel) production

Define functional requirements through known industry standards, documentation analysis and Work Flow Process Mapping (Value Stream Maps)

Actively participate on a technical project team, ensuring that effective relationships are built and maintained

Proactively engage with customers to define the overall technical approach for MES solutions

Proactively report on project progress against schedule

Participate in strategic and tactical planning sessions

Primary contact with machine vendors regarding technical standards and integration needs and requirements.

Following and improving policies and procedures for documenting work; providing comprehensive documentation for all projects including drawing as built and revisions. Recommending capital projects.

Ability to work under time constraints; Ensure all safety policies, procedures and rules are adhered to by all staff.

Skills

Skilled in Industrial Automation and Manufacturing Execution Systems (production control and ERP)

Skilled in PLC & HMI Design and Programming

Proficient in VFD Configuration and Commissioning

Knowledge of Robotics Programming and interfacing

Knowledge in AutoCAD Electrical and AutoCAD Inventor.

Education and/or Experience

College/University bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering

Minimum 2 years' experience in manufacturing systems engineering

3+ years of experience with strong problem-solving skills, preferably in a fast-paced manufacturing/industrial environment with multiple priorities preferred.
