We are seeking a bright and highly motivated attorney to join our legal team as Litigation Counsel. In this position, you will play a key role in supporting the enterprise's business objectives and well as advancing the legal interests of UACC and its affiliates. Your areas of focus will include litigation and escalated customer disputes, as well as supporting dealer compliance enforcement. Also, because we are a small legal team, we are seeking a flexible team player who relishes the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and cover the broad range of day-to-day legal needs of the organization. RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage litigation matters, including oversight and collaboration with outside counsel
Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, motions, and other court documents, respond to discovery requests, and prepare for hearings, trials, and arbitrations
Advise internal stakeholders on legal risks associated with business activities and proposed courses of action
Work closely with other members of the legal team, as well as cross-functional teams across the organization, to achieve strategic objectives, manage legal risks effectively, and facilitate alignment among all parties
Keep abreast of legal developments, trends, and best practices relevant to the company's business
Manage day-to-day legal needs of the business
QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to succeed in this role.
J.D. and member in good standing of the Texas or California bar required and either or both states preferred
3-5 years of relevant experience
Litigation experience required
Both law firm and in-house experience preferred
Ability to multitask, work independently and carry out important projects with limited oversight
Experience with and understanding of the automotive or consumer finance industry is a plus
Excellent business judgement and interpersonal skills to negotiate proactively with internal and external parties
Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to provide clear and concise business-focused legal advice
