GENERAL SUMMARY:

The ideal candidate is capable of managing a team, yet can also work

independently, provide recommendations, solve problems, meet deadlines, understand priorities, and exercise sound judgment when having to make important decisions on proposals.

Successful candidates will be expected to manage an estimating group consisting of 3 to 4 team members at various levels, prepare and/or review multiple estimates (dependent on size), and these estimates will include multiple stakeholders (Client, Subcontractors, Design / Engineering Team, Construction Manager, etc.).

This position oversees all aspects of the estimate (conceptual, hard pricing or bidding), including reviewing construction/bid documents, approving qualified subcontractors to participate in pricing, overseeing necessary Request for Information (RFIs), qualifying subcontractors who can carry out the work, consulting with subcontractors and internal management on constructability considerations in order to prepare an accurate pricing/bid proposal, quantify cost per division, preparing a schedule (with consideration to lead times) and preparing a complete package for submission to a client.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Vice President of Estimating will report to and be supported by the President and is expected to be a leader who can mentor and develop their team members and peers.

Primary duties and responsibilities include:

o Supervise and ensure the accuracy, quality and timeliness of all estimating, budgeting, pricing and bidding activities.

o Review bid documents and examine plans and specifications and prepare a complete scope of work. As drawings may not include all the necessary details and/or construction considerations, consult internally and externally for scope considerations.

o Check the accuracy of take-offs, other outputs from estimating software and pricing proposals submitted by subcontractors used by the Estimating team to prepare pricing/bid packages.

o Receive requests for estimating and gather necessary information such as vendor quotes, plans, bidding manuals, specifications, addenda and revisions.

o Evaluate site-specific information such as existing conditions, measurements, photo documentation, logistical planning, and other project-specific details.

o Communicate and engage with local sub-contractors and review, qualify, analyze and level incoming bids.

o Research material requirements, including finishes, accessories and installation methods.

o Communicate with internal and external sources and be ready to work flexible hours to ensure bid submission deadlines are met.

o Submit pricing/bids after quantifying and qualifying all material quantities. Include schedules after given proper consideration to lead times and constructability.

o Follow up with bids or prospects to close transactions.

o Participate in developing business development to maximize opportunities.

o Keep leadership informed and engaged on all potential projects.

o Lead and mentor additional staff assigned to support their projects (Estimators, Bid Coordinators, etc.).

SKILLS:

Acceptable industry experience includes prior work experience at any of the following related firms:

o Construction (General Contractor, Construction Manager, Subcontractor)

o Project Management / Owner's Representation

o Design (Architecture, Engineering, etc.)

o Human Resource Management

o Business Development

o Communication - internal at all levels, external from clients to project team partners to subcontractors

o Business Strategy - collaboration with/input from Ownership and Senior Team Members

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

o Bachelor's or Associates Degree in Construction Management, Project Management, Engineering or related field.

o At least 10 years of experience (as noted above).

o Excellent organizational, problem solving, presentation, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

o Thorough knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, construction cost, scheduling and accounting principles.

o Proficient with the following software applications (at a minimum):

Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

Microsoft Project or Primavera P6

Adobe Acrobat, Blue Beam Revu or other PDF developers/editors)
