BNI Coal, Ltd., a BNI Energy company and subsidiary of ALLETE, Inc. with locations in Bismarck & Center, ND is now hiring for an Engineer I at its Center Mine location, near Center, ND, and only 40 minutes from NW of Bismarck. BNI mines and reclaims about 200 acres per year to supply lignite coal to fuel the nearby Milton R. Young Generation Station operated by two cooperatives, Minnkota Power and Square Butte. The two electric generating cooperatives consume virtually all of the coal produced at the Center Mine under agreements in place through 2037. The Young Station generates low cost, reliable, domestic energy for customers in North Dakota and Minnesota.
Engineer I Responsibilities: This position will support surface mining operations by working with the engineering, surveying, and environmental team on a wide variety of civil/hydrologic design, planning, surveying and construction related assignments. Responsibilities include preparing construction, permitting and mining plans using CADD software; Preparation of project schedules and cost estimates; Surveying using GPS equipment and drones; Construction oversight and production tracking. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil, Mining, Construction, or related Engineering curriculum. Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain certification within one year. Desire to obtain your Professional Engineer license preferred. Entry-level position 0 to 5 years practical engineering experience desired. Familiarity with AutoCAD and CADD based civil design software. Strong mathematical skills and computer skills with an emphasis on Microsoft Word and Excel preferred. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and attention to detail required. Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. Must be able to work outdoors in all climatic conditions.
