Senior Accountant

Full Time

Remote Hybrid/2 days in Downtown Chicago Office

$60-70k plus benefits

SUMMARY OF ROLE

Responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparation, analysis and distribution of the monthly and annual financial statement package including follow-up to inquiries made regarding issued financial statements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Originates necessary journal entries for monthly closing process and prepares reconciliations of various accounts to the general ledger. Investigate and reconcile discrepancies in financial transactions.
  • Performs daily operating bank account reconciliation to the general ledger and corresponding journal entries for related entities.
  • Review accounts payable for discrepancies and adherence to company payment processes.
  • Prepares monthly and annual financial statements including balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports including consolidated reports when requested to summarize current and projected company financial position for related entities.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, discrepancies and areas for improvement.
  • Assist in budget preparation and forecasting. Monitor budget performance and provide recommendations for cost optimization.
  • Assist in preparation for yearly audit and tax filings.
  • Assist with monthly and yearly chapter and region accounting.
  • Assist in the support of systems implementation and maintenance.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLSET, & ABILITIES
  • Bachelor's degree, in accounting or business
  • Two years of relevant experience in a non-profit setting preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience in accounting software (e.g. Sage, QuickBooks)
  • Strong understanding of accounting standards
  • Ability to plan and organize work with minimum direction.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of activity on multiple projects.
  • Effectively plans and organizes projects impacting the work of others.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy affecting overall outcome of work.
