PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Work closely with business development and program offices to establish relationships with the customer to define the product vision and technology roadmap

  • Lead the development of system, subsystem, and product requirements implementing industry best practices for Systems

  • Requirements derivation, decomposition, and allocation to support the Systems Engineering V life-cycle phases, stage gate reviews, and supporting checklists

  • Coordinate requirements analysis activities with Integrated Product Teams and associated product development engineering disciplines

  • Conduct systems analyses and trades to define the system and subsystem level designs

  • Support trade studies and analysis activities for system architecture and identify support required for product commonality, technology maturity, production readiness, environment, health, safety, human factors, etc.

  • Assist in trade studies to improve systems performance for size, weight, power, cooling, and affordability

  • Work with product development teams to develop products and design specifications

  • Develop and upkeep systems engineering processes, procedures, checklists, and templates

  • Participates in process initiatives developing processes, procedures, guidelines, templates, work instructions, etc.

  • Participate in systems engineering reviews

  • Support data management, configuration management, risk management, and issue identification and tracking activities

  • Supporting Systems Engineering and Product Engineering as needed in various roles - this will range in scope from Product Engineering, Systems Engineering, Regulatory and Safety Engineering, development of system architectures, weight management, interfacing between Product Engineering and System Engineering Groups, RAM Engineering, Program Management support, Build support, and Configuration Management.

  • Perform architecture analysis tracing requirements to derived system elements (e.g., functional definition, subsystems, components, hardware, software, physical attributes, interfaces, etc.)

  • Work with Systems Architect Engineers to perform requirements allocation, decomposition, and derivation to systems architecture and product structure

  • Coordinate with all functional product disciplines to meet product requirements

  • Develop system product structure to support vehicle architecture design

  • Develop vehicle interface specification and attributes to support subsystem design, component hardware and software, assemblies, ICDs, and block diagrams

  • Participate in product review cycles, phase gate reviews, approval of technical work products, and delivery of customer products

  • Define requirements for life-cycle design reviews mapping contract Statement of Work (SOW), review entrance and exit criteria, etc.

  • Define work product checklists and Develop requirements compliance checklists

  • Work the development of the system requirements, traceability, and allocation to functional elements, physical elements, and system performance specifications

  • Define plans and requirements for activities to support implementation, integration, and production readiness

  • Provide status of system activities, metrics, and issues to support system and product needs

  • Assists in establishing design parameters to achieve most cost-effective approach consistent with the end item of specifications, performance, and reliability objectives

  • Ensures that products meet Federal, State, and local regulations as well as international homologation requirements for such items as safety and emission standards

  • Establishes designs through calculations, analysis and various design verification techniques

  • Supports releasing engineering designs at prototype and production phases of a program

  • Maintains contact with vendors and subcontractors to keep abreast of new materials, products, sources, pricing and lead time requirements

  • Solicit vendor knowledge and participation in product standardization and cost reduction

  • Assist in providing engineering analysis of field problems and as required, makes recommendations for, and implements, corrective action

  • Assists the manufacturing group during production startup and resolves engineering changes for effective production runs

  • Performs requirements analysis, decomposition, and derivation to develop product requirement specifications with supporting analysis, inspection methods, validation, verification, and certification

  • Develop and promote Systems Modeling Language (SysML) model-based practices supporting requirement analysis defining specifications to include stakeholder needs, systems capabilities, functions, performance, behavior, interfaces, concept and detailed designs, environment, reliability, safety, supportability, mass properties, etc.

  • Develop system behavior models using SysML practices and generate supporting DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF) views as required to support product life cycle development

  • Performs various product analysis studies to define product requirements for component hardware size, weight, power, cooling, and affordability

  • Develop product interface specifications for component hardware and software

  • Develop product requirements with allocations to manufacturing and supply chain for hardware special and key characteristics

  • Applies systems engineering best practices as defined by the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) and industry standards (IATF 16949, ISO 9001:2015, CMMI Level 3)

  • Documents metrics and status reports

  • Conduct systems, subsystem, and product requirements analysis to develop system, product, and design specifications

  • Develop product requirements for component hardware specifications to include special and key characteristics, size, weight, power, cooling, and affordability

  • Conduct market surveys, technology studies, and assess manufacturing readiness for new product development opportunities Coordinate systems and product requirements specifications with associated Integrated Product Teams (IPT) to ensure requirements compliance with supporting analysis, inspection, verification, validation, qualification, and certification reports

  • Develop requirements best practices, processes, guidelines, templates, and supporting artifacts

  • Develop supplier Statement of Work (Work), physical and key characteristics, and product requirements specification

  • Conduct risk management best practices and evaluation of requirements for program and technical risk

  • Business Case development for programs and projects

  • Support the Strategic Development Plan (PDP)

  • Support Lean Six Sigma efforts (Green Belt Certification)

  • Support proposal development

  • Advise on software products to support AM General Systems Engineering processes


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS



  • BSME/BSEE/BSET/BSIE and 8-15 years experience, on total vehicle or component design/development

  • S. Citizenship required

  • Knowledge of vehicle system architecture (i.e., functional, physical, data, environment, Environmental Safety Occupational Health) preferred

  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills

  • Proven attention to detail

  • Strong interpersonal skills to drive actions necessary to accomplish assigned tasks

  • Customer focused

  • Fluent in English

  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to obtain security clearance


Required Skills:



  • Knowledge of DoD contract requirements and specifications for ground vehicles

  • Knowledge of vehicle system architecture (i.e., functional, physical, data, environment, Environmental Safety Occupational Health, Human Factors, Hazardous Material, etc.) for military and commercial programs

  • Experience in Risk Management best practices

  • Experience with Program Management

  • Experience with general systems analysis activities and product development Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge in International Council of Systems Engineering (INCOSE) Systems Engineering (SE) Handbook Knowledge of DODAF based architecture frameworks

  • Knowledge and application of model-based systems architecture using industry tools and practices (i.e., UML, SysML, DoDAF) Knowledge and application of DoD life-cycle defamations and systems engineering (i.e., DoD 5000.02, V Life Cycle) Experience in the development of DoD artifacts

  • Experience in the design, implementation, and qualification of military vehicles including C4ISR architectures Experience in supporting military and industry standards: MIL-STD-499, EIA/IS-632, IEEE 1220, MIL-STD-881D, ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288, IATF 16949, ISO 9001:2015

  • Experience in Systems safety and hazard analysis eliminating hazards documented in Mil-Std-882 Experience in Design for Reliability best practices and performing reliability studies


Desired Support Tools:



  • Knowledge in using requirements management and life-cycle tools (e.g., Teamcenter) Knowledge in using SysML tools (e.g., Rhapsody, UML)

  • Knowledge in using Trade Study and Risk Decision tool (e.g., Palisade)

  • Knowledge in developing MS Power Point presentations to support program reviews, leadership briefings, status, issue reports, etc.

  • Administrative tools: MSOffice 365, MS Office Suite, MS Project, Visio, SharePoint, S4 HANA(SAP)

  • Have a working knowledge of Program Management, Resource Management, Schedule Management, Earned Value Management System (EVMS)


PHYSICAL EFFORT



  • Sight: must be able to regularly read computer screen, reports, and various documents with detail and clarity to accomplish work tasks in a safe and efficient manner, including regular use of adequate close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus

  • Hearing: must be able to regularly hear well enough to communicate


WORKING CONDITIONS



  • Physical Location: This position operates between an office and manufacturing plant environment and is often assigned to a specific shift or hours. The Employee must be able to perform job functions in an environment with varying difficult work conditions such as extreme cold, heat, inclement weather, at heights, and/or while exposed to constant/intermittent loud noises

  • Teamwork: This position will work with others to ensure efficiency in the workplace

  • Listening Skills: This position will need to understand how to use machinery properly and safely to prevent accidents and ensure all tasks are completed accurately

  • Ability to follow instructions: Managers assign tasks and responsibilities, which vary; this position should be able to follow instructions competently

  • Methodical approach: Production lines follow a set process, so this position needs a methodical approach to ensure all tasks are completed in the correct order for a smooth-running production line



  • Concentration: This position may perform the same or similar tasks repeatedly, so a strong level of concentration when carrying out these tasks is important for quality control purposes. This role is often fast paced, so being able to maintain focus at all times is important
