Partnerships to Uplift Communities (PUC) Schools is comprised of a non-profit network of public charter schools designed to significantly increase high school graduation rates, college entrance, and college graduation rates for underserved students in North-East Los Angeles, and the North-East San Fernando Valley.

The Team Member we are searching for

The ideal Lead Tutor believes in and is passionate about the mission and commitments of PUC Schools and exhibits this through their leadership, reflection, execution of school culture, and collaboration to ensure student success. The Lead Tutor will work closely with the after-school Site Coordinator, administration, and tutors to facilitate small group instruction and provide one-on-one homework support to students in a safe and nurturing learning environment.

What you will need to accomplish:

Planning and Instruction:


  • Train new tutors and take on additional coordinator tasks

  • Ensure a safe and nurturing learning environment

  • Seek and share additional ideas to improve student’s experience for the after-school program

  • Facilitate small group instruction and one-to-one homework support as identified by the coordinator or administrator

  • Prepare instructional and enrichment activity materials

  • Prepare and clean the room before, during, and after the program

  • Facilitate and support enrichment activities such as clubs and sports

  • Oversee tutors and support during snack time as needed

  • Maintain accurate records such as attendance, timesheets, incident reports, and others as assigned by the after-school Site Coordinator or Administrator

  • Report all student and parent concerns to the after-school Site Coordinator or Administrator

  • Redirect any inappropriate student behaviors and implement the program discipline system to effectively monitor and guide proper student behavior

  • Build positive relationships with parents, students, and staff

  • Communicate effectively and appropriately with all stakeholders (parents, students, staff)

  • Establish good relations with individual students and groups

Professional Educator and Leadership:


  • Participate in necessary professional development and training

  • Maintain regular attendance, dependability and punctuality in conformance with the performance standards of this position

  • Perform related duties as assigned by the site administrator

What do we require from you?

Minimum Qualifications

Education:


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in related field, or in-progress preferred

Experience:


  • Minimum of two years of experience working as a tutor preferred

Skills and Abilities


  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Alignment with core characteristics required of every PUC employee: pursuit of excellence, innovation, community, tenacity, and authenticity

  • Able to align classroom and school culture

  • Able to analyze qualitative and quantitative student data

  • Must be flexible and team-oriented

  • Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred

  • Strong work ethic, accountability, and ownership of work

  • Regular attendance, dependability and punctuality in conformance with the standards are essential to the successful performance of this position

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Occasionally required to kneel, climb and reach with hands and arms above shoulder level, lift up to 30 pounds. To bend, sit, stand, squat, stoop, walk, push, pull, and reach with hands and arms at shoulder level or below. Always required to wear the appropriate safety equipment for the task, which may include gloves, goggles, aprons, belts, etc.
