The Research Associate 1, SOM supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

6. Organizes and maintains mouse colonies
7. Collects, processes and analyzes mouse organs and cells.
8. Maintains sterile cell lines and cell cultures.
9. Performs basic molecular biology experiments, such as RNA extraction, PCR and cloning.
10. Prepares cells for flow cytometry and performs basic flow cytometry analysis.
11. Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
12. Performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.
13. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions
This full-time Research Associate 1, SOM position is within the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC) at the Miller School of Medicine. The incumbent will be embedded in the Villarino laboratory to support research on autoimmune disease and cancer. Specifically, they will be expected to support and interface with other members of the laboratory, primarily in support of in vivo mouse experiments. The incumbent will also participate in departmental lectures/seminars and other University activities designed to advance their education and training. This position is contingent on funding and salary will be commensurate with experience. There will be a six month probationary period, after which there may be a mutual decision to continue for at least 1.5 more years (2 years total), contingent on quality research output, ability to work with the team and demonstration of time management, communication, and documentation skills.
Core lab-specific duties include:
1. Organizes and maintains mouse colonies
2. Collect processes and analyze mouse organs and cells.
3. Prepare samples for next generation sequencing
4. Maintain sterile cell lines and cell cultures.
5. Perform basic molecular biology experiments, such as RNA extraction, PCR and cloning.
6. Support ongoing research for standing lab members
