Job Description:

Northwestern Mutual is a Fortune 500 Company with expertise in helping clients achieve financial security. As the Santa Monica office continues to be one of the fastest growing offices within the company, we are seeking a motivated Director of Development to join the team.

The responsibility of the Director of Development is to support the firms efforts to attract, develop and coach new financial advisors in order to help them get off to a fast start in their careers. This leadership role reports directly to the Managing Director and partners with all other district-level leadership to assess developmental needs, implement training and development strategies and programs, and monitor and evaluate results to help build and retain talent within the company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

New Advisor Development
• Provide overview of training in the selection process
• Lead pre-training Introductory Day as well as aspects of Financial Planning Academy
• Coach new advisors on maintaining high activity and effective sales habits
• Hold individual accountability meetings with each new advisor 3x per week
• Provide training on and ensure accurate use of Client Relationship Management (CRM) software
• Prepare for and lead periodic performance reviews, assessing progress and growth in the business
• Collect and track business data to ensure pacing for individual and collective goals
• Create content for and coordinate weekly in-office development meetings

Leadership
• Partner with leadership team to monitor individuals' overall progress and results, and share recommendations for coaching opportunities
• Weekly connection and coaching with mentors to align in development strategies
• Champion development opportunities, ongoing training, and continuing education programs, support progress, and celebrate career achievements
• Build and maintain high morale and positive energy/momentum towards benchmarks for success
• Creatively and proactively problem-solve obstacles to advisor success in the career, and provide additional resources as needed

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree
• 3-5+ years of leadership experience preferred
• Effectively leads and facilitates groups of people and the work of others
• Works effectively with people at all levels and builds strong relationships
• Aptitude for addressing issues in a proactive and creative manner and leads crucial conversations using a results-focused approach
• Effectively manages time to address multiple competing priorities
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
• Superior written and oral communication skills
