ABOUT JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT OF CENTRAL VIRGINIA (JACV)

THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Director of Development is a key leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting JACV. The person in this position is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising development plan, analyzing and presenting analytics to drive results, and cultivating and stewarding corporate and individual investors.

The Director of Development will play a pivotal role in expanding and diversifying JACV's investor base/pipeline, thereby directly contributing to our mission of inspiring and preparing young people to succeed in a global economy.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

GENERAL & STRATEGY
• Establish and execute a comprehensive development and stewardship program, including annual fund appeals, major gifts, planned giving, capital campaigns, state, local, foundation, and corporate grants, and special events. Include timelines, tactics, and processes.
• Work in collaboration with the President and CEO on philanthropy initiatives.
• Serve as project owner for the Development department, cross-functional projects, and improvement initiatives. This includes but isn't limited to, setting direction, including scope, timeline, and resources, and managing change through effective planning and communication.
• Oversee research of funding sources and trends, and proactively strategize to position JACV ahead of significant funding changes or trends.

GRANTS & CORPORATE SPONSORSHIPS
• Maintain a comprehensive grant tracking system.
• Research, cultivate, prepare, and submit effective private and state/federal grant proposals to maximize JACV's opportunities to receive grant funding. Prepare and submit follow-up reports to grant-makers.
• Oversee and execute a corporate sponsorship program to support and develop JA Finance Park.

DONOR IDENTIFICATION, STEWARDSHIP, AND RETENTION
• Manage the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship processes of prospects and donors. Maintain communications and develop financial ask projections and dates by prospect.
• Work with the Board of Directors to maximize their personal and professional fundraising contributions.
• Develop and execute annual giving programs to support all revenue streams: Major Gifts (individual, corporate, and foundation); Mid-level (moving small gifts to more significant gifts (i.e., monthly donor program); and Broad-based support (direct mail, online giving, and fundraising campaigns through social media).
• Identify and cultivate JA Finance Park sponsors, including administrative oversight of multi-year sponsor agreements.
• Lead in the creation, design, and execution of planned giving strategies and goals and develop metrics to measure ongoing success and ROI

EVENTS
• Stay current and knowledgeable about fundraising event trends.
• Adapt, create, organize, and execute special event fundraisers. Establish and manage event logistics, including leadership and oversight for event production.
• Execute sponsorship and stewardship recognition plans, including, but not limited to, identifying and cultivating event sponsors and registrants and successfully soliciting in-kind donations for events.

DATA MANAGEMENT & ANALYSIS / REPORTING / BUDGET
• Provide and present statistical analysis to board and senior leaders through active monitoring and collection of donor information.
• Oversee gift entries and gift acknowledgments through database management and maintenance.
• Develop reporting to inform JACV leadership of pertinent donor information.
• Work with the Controller to invoice and collect pledges in a timely manner.
• Assist in preparing income and expense budgets and cash flow projections for Development activities.
• Oversee the development and communication of the Annual Impact Report.

MANAGEMENT & COLLABORATION
• Identify, lead, develop, and mentor the development team.
• Collaborate across several departments to execute plans and meet goals. Work especially closely with the Education team to ensure grant requirements are reasonable and reported.
• Serve as liaison to the Board's Fundraising Committee. Prepare materials for board and committee meetings.
• Attend appropriate networking events in order to build and strengthen partnerships and identify future funders.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
• Degree or relevant work experience required and a minimum of 8 years of fundraising experience
• Experience in raising funds exceeding $1 million annually
• Proven history of successful development or fundraising abilities
• CFRE certification preferred
• Proven experience in meeting deadlines and exceeding goals
• Experience in major gifts, planned giving, and special events
• Experience in capital campaigns preferred
• Proven staff development and management skills
• Experienced in fundraising database platforms
• Proficient in data analytics
