Role description:

Arcadis is looking for a Principal Project Director to join our growing Resilience Water Team in Albany, New York! This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual, to join our team and with the support of a nationally recognized technical staff from one of the best-qualified consulting firms in the world. The Principal Project Director will get involved in industrial, municipal, and infrastructure design and construction projects throughout New York State. They will utilize their expertise and technical knowledge to develop and deliver projects, as well as coordinate with clients and stakeholders.

Role accountabilities:

In this role, you will lead projects and tasks for a variety of Resilience Water work types, which may include, but are not necessarily limited to site design, water, wastewater, stormwater, and green infrastructure.

Responsibilities include:


  • Serve as Project Manager (or Assistant Project Manager) on projects.
  • Develop design and construction documents (i.e., reports, technical memoranda, specifications).
  • Work collaboratively with multi-discipline teams.
  • Lead or support construction administration.
  • Lead or support construction management, inspection or oversight projects.
  • Develop scopes of work and budgets.
  • Support client teams in identifying, tracking, and positioning for opportunities.
  • Participate in pursuit capture planning for new project opportunities.
  • Support preparation of proposals.
  • Some local travel may be required for project site visits, client meetings, general planning purposes or to attend construction project meetings.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 20+ years of experience leading and delivering projects.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Landscape Architecture or related field.

Key Skills and Abilities

  • Project Management experience.
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills.
  • Experience with commercial, institutional or municipal design and construction.
  • Experience managing and collaborating on multiple design projects, scheduling and cost estimating.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically about technical challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensure as a professional engineer or landscape architect.
  • Program Management experience.
  • Excellent Client Management and overall communication skills with strong leadership experience.
  • Proficiency with Primavera and/or MS Project and the MS Office Suite (particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.)
  • Active participation in regional and/or national professional associations.

We offer nine paid holidays and 15-20 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $112,00 - $166,000. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
