Job Summary
The Indiana University Student Health Center (IU SHC) is seeking a dedicated Physician to join our dynamic healthcare team. As a physician at IUSHC, you will play a pivotal role in providing comprehensive medical care to the diverse student population at Indiana University Bloomington. We are committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care and promoting the health and well-being of our students.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare team members, including nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, counselors, and other providers, to ensure integrated and coordinated care for students
Conducts comprehensive assessments and develops individualized treatment plans for students with complex medical needs
Educates and counsels students on health promotion, disease prevention, and management of medical conditions
Participates in quality improvement initiatives and contributes to the development of clinical protocols and policies to enhance patient care
Maintains accurate and timely electronic medical records and documentation in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
Actively engages in professional development activities, including continuing medical education and participation in relevant conferences and seminars
General Responsibilities
Provides full scope of primary care services including diagnosis, treatments, coordination of care, preventative care, and health maintenance to patients
Performs initial assessment, including a comprehensive history and physical, of assigned participants at intake. Assesses patient's medical history and performs a physical exam
Analyzes test results to identify abnormal findings. Recommends, designs, and implements treatment plans for patients
Provides and manages direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses, and treatments. Provides evaluations, treatments, and ongoing monitoring of episodic illness
Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions in accordance with Indiana statute and professional practice guidelines
Addresses concerns or answers questions that patients have about their health and well-being
Consults patients on how to take care of their health by discussing topics such as proper nutrition and hygiene
Documents and updates charts and patient information to show findings and treatments
Conducts and orders tests and consultations for other physicians or healthcare staff to perform
Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required
Refers participants to medical specialists and relevant patient care components as appropriate
Adheres to established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards
May manage the daily operations of a specific medical program, patient care unit, or research function
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
Completion of a medical degree from a medical school approved by the Medical Licensing Board in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, or Family Practice
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified, which may include residency in a directly related medical specialty
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required
Medical license in the State of Indiana
DEA registration along with the State of Indiana Controlled Substance Registration

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires sedentary work as well as extended durations of moving about the workplace. It requires the ability to move objects and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and the ability to discern between various objects and devices and to position patients. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
