Hawk Link is seeking exceptional student leaders passionate about engaging incoming KU students. Student leaders are a vital member of the Hawk Link Success Team and will play an active role in supporting students in their academic and professional goals by acting as guides, role models, and community builders. The student leaders in this role will be involved in Jayhawk JumpStart, in August. Student leaders are expected to attend a week of training and the full week of events during Jayhawk JumpStart. After the transition program, students will also be eligible for consideration as a student specialist in the Hawk Link office during the 2024-2025 school year.
This position will serve as a Student Leader during Jayhawk JumpStart with training beginning the week of August 12 and events beginning August 18 and running through August 23, 2024. The position will pay $11.00/hr and make at least $600 during the 2-week period as the first week will be less than 40 hours paid time work. Student leaders will also be provided breakfast, lunch, and dinner during JumpStart week and meals during training sessions and those that live on campus will have housing covered. Students who accept the position must have all documentation and paperwork submitted and filed with HR by July 19, 2024.
Job DescriptionJayhawk JumpStart is an early transition program that provides students with a FREE on-campus experience to enhance the transition to KU, including free early move-in. It is available to incoming, first-time freshman who are First-Generation or Pell-eligible students, preferably both.
The Jayhawk JumpStart student leaders will lead, guide, and connect with students through sessions covering topics including:
Finding friends and making campus connections. (25%)
College basics including expectations and faculty connections. (25%)
Understanding values and how they connect to career outcomes. (10%)
Academic skills for college. (10%)
Using KU Technology. (10%)
Well-being support and services. (10%)
Time management, including balancing work, internships or shadowing. (10%)
Student Leaders may be considered to continue as Hawk Link Student Specialists throughout the 2024-2025 academic year. Required Qualifications
Must be a full-time student in good standing as defined by KU
Must be classified as a sophomore or higher by hours and years of attendance by the summer of 2024
Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 at time of application and throughout term of employment
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students.
