Position Summary The Director, Foundation & Corporate Grants (Director) serves as a primary connector between the University and institutional funders, actively seeking and crafting partnerships that deepen existing and forge new relationships that advance the institution’s mission and initiatives. A critical member of the advancement team, the Director will attract funding for the University by managing a portfolio of some of La Salle’s leading foundation, corporate, and government partners. The Director will research, identify, pursue, develop, and respond to new and emerging funding opportunities. This will include preparing proposals, letters of intent, grant applications, and necessary reports while partnering with leadership, advancement, development colleagues, and academic partners on funding proposals. They will also fully steward awarded grants – inclusive of timely administration, budgeting, and reporting – while providing collaborators with funder-related guidance as needed.
Essential Duties FUNDRAISING
  • Identify and pursue long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships with foundations and corporations (and some government agencies) that offer expanded reach and revenue support for La Salle and its institutional priorities, either through philanthropic dollars, gifts-in-kind, or other agreements.
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of 100-120 active and discovery prospects with cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for each.
  • Cultivate and solicit program officers and senior executives through face-to-face visits as well as through video, email, telephone, and mail communications, and other appropriate moves management.
  • Structure and submit timely, well-researched, and well-documented proposals to generate both unrestricted and restricted funding.
  • Develop strategies to engage key foundation and corporate partners and encourage greater involvement with the institution; build trusted relationships with program officers and corporate executives.
  • Conduct and track the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals with a steady focus on pipeline building by continuously researching institutional funders to evaluate prospects for grants.
  • Build trusted relationships and regularly meet with faculty and other stakeholders to learn, brainstorm, and gather information that informs the creation of detailed and strategic proposals.
  • Collaborate with major gift officers and other advancement staff as well as with the Finance team to manage individual prospects affiliated with grant-funded projects.
  • Design and implement tailored site and campus visits (in-person and virtual) and other cultivation activities for foundation officers and trustees.
  • Schedule and participate in cultivation/solicitation visits with the President, Vice President of Advancement, Assistant Vice President of Development, Deans and faculty, and key volunteers.
  • Comply with all grant reporting requirements and provide stewardship to current donors including regular written updates and financial tracking.
  • Document all cultivation and solicitation activities with prospects/donors and employ prospect clearance policies. Maintain accurate and timely records of all activities in donor database.
Secondary Responsibilities

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 3+ years of demonstrated experience in development, fundraising, and/or grant writing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills; articulating values, information, and compelling cases of support to multiple audiences, one-on-one, and through formal proposals and/or presentations.
  • A proactive approach; experience initiating relationships and building a portfolio from scratch is helpful.
  • Ability to interface effectively with corporate and foundation representatives, as well as with leaders of industry; brings a customer service orientation.
  • Experience organizing and managing multiple projects/tasks simultaneously; can work independently and as part of a team; able to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to produce high-quality work within tight time constraints and on deadline.
  • Strategic thinker able to navigate complexity, understand the role of individuals in higher education philanthropy; able to communicate and collaborate effectively with alumni, donors, university administrators, and faculty.
  • Able to deal with a variety of situations with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Aptitude for research and data mining; strong orientation towards customer service, prioritization of tasks; project management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate well to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Poised and engaging with an intellectual depth, maturity, judgement, and professionalism to earn the confidence and trust of both colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit, one that takes initiative and actively seeks to nurture existing relationships and foster new ones.
  • A strong drive to be successful paired with integrity and sincerity.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of La Salle University.
  • Bachelor’s degree; equivalent work experience will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Candidates with fundraising experience in higher education will be prioritized.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours
  • This position may require some local and regional travel.
  • Some events will require work hours outside of the typical business day and/or on weekends..
