TRAVEL: As required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position

ASRT, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal and private sector clients. The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of ASRT, Inc. and will be assigned to the Division of Scientific Resources (DSR), National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic and Infectious Diseases (NCEZID), at the CDC, 1600 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA.

SCOPE OF WORK

The Laboratory Technician I will provide support for non-research biological science work and across various scientific and public health areas associated with numerous biological agents.


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform quality control review of monthly Planned Preventive Maintenance Documents. Hardcopy and digital database upkeep of records.
  • Perform quality control review of Water Quality lab books as well as Monthly and Quarterly Report Review.
  • Perform annual thermometer calibrations and maintain accurate division database for location, equipment, and needs for temperature monitoring.
  • Support the Division of Scientific Resources in a Quality Assurance capacity by assisting with the following daily Quality needs from the various groups:
  • Assist with Non-Conforming Event Reports, documentation, and training.
  • Maintain an accurate database of equipment for the groups with accurate lab locations and records.
  • Assist in Quality Control reviews of Standard Operating Procedures and trainings.
  • Assist with inventory check-in for the various groups and inventory database maintenance and accuracy.
  • Support the Diagnostic Manufacturing group as a Quality Control representative in label approvals, Product Insert approvals, vial reconciliations, and Kit Assembly quality control checks.
  • Perform several PCR QC testing of primers, probes, and positive controls of various viruses/bacteria in order to release products for use
  • Perform DNA/RNA extractions using the MagNA Pure 96 instrument or the Qiagen instrument
  • Support the Quality Control lab cell culture reviews, labels, and product release.
  • Support of Quality Control Autoclave Waste procedures with:
  • Biological Indicator collection, incubation, and indicator results reporting.
  • Printing, verifying, and approving Autoclave Waste Labels.
  • Autoclave label customer Service
  • General Quality Assurance Customer Service throughout the division.
Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in microbiology, biology, chemistry, basic medical science, or environmental laboratory science, or
  • 2-5 years of equivalent experience

Required:

  • Experience working with established SOPs across molecular and laboratory techniques.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for the preparation of memos and reports.
  • Experience working with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working in a similar role.
  • Previous experience with "chain of custody" materials and transfers.
  • Experience modifying methods based on evaluation of research results.
  • Specific detailed knowledge of quality systems and regulatory requirements, handling of clinical specimens, and aseptic techniques.
  • Knowledge of documentation for equipment calibration and validation.
  • Knowledge of quality systems and inventory software functions.

Language Skills:

  • The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

REQUIREMENT: Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident or have authorization for employment in the United States.
