The primary role of the candidate will be to assist in current projects involving material development of polymers, process development for extrusion and material characterization, part testing, printed electronics and failure analysis. The candidate will work in support of new process and product development projects sponsored by the Research Labs (ERL) and other businesses.
Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities
Develop and sustain new processes associated with polymer additive manufacturing and printed electronics
Support the engineering team in producing additively manufactured (AM) parts for projects.
Construct and test prototypes and designs
Present and deliver data to the engineering team in an efficient and organized manner.
Accurately document and communicate project progress with engineering team.
Effectively maintains laboratory equipment, machines, and material inventories needed for experimental work.
Contribute to planning of assigned tasks
Execute assigned tasks in a timely and proficient manner
Provide timely and complete information and documentation related to the work performed
Exercise analytical and problem-solving abilities to resolve issues as they arise,
Learn and follow standard operating practices related to the activities they are engaged in
Follow procedures and policies specific to their workplace.
The candidate should be self-directed, able to work with little supervision, work well with others, and have an interest in continuous learning and improvement.
Mechanical Engineer Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Material Science, Chemical Engineering or a related field with some manufacturing/production experience highly desired.
Basic mechanical aptitude and 1-2 years of experience and knowledge in polymer additive manufacturing, such as FDM (FFF and FGF) and SLA processes or Printed electronics.
Capable of following test procedures and conducting experiments using AM machines, and other basic lab equipment.
Basic data analysis and Microsoft Office skills
Basic understanding of electronics, electrical resistance and soldering is a plus
Additional experience with materials testing and test equipment such as tensile load frame, fatigue, rheology, TGA, DSC, DMA etc. is a plus.
Knowledge and familiarity with a range of polymers and polymer processing technology.
Knowledge on 3D printing and screen printing of electronics is a plus
Executing print runs and conducting ongoing quality assessments during the print cycle.
