The Division of Nephrology at the University of Utah is offering a one-year AST accredited Transplant Nephrology Fellowship position for the academic year 2025-2026. This program fulfills the requirements established by the Organ Procurement & Transplantation Network (OPTN) for individuals to serve as the Primary Kidney Transplant Physician for any transplant program in the U.S.
The trainee will gain clinical experience in all aspects of pre-transplant evaluation, inpatient and outpatient transplant recipient management, donor evaluation, kidney graft biopsy, etc. Fellows will have didactic lectures, journal clubs, clinical conferences and pathology conferences.
Training under the standard fellowship rotation will also include:
* 2 weeks human leukocyte antigen (HLA) laboratory rotation at the
* 2 weeks pathology rotation at the University of Utah
* 1month pediatric rotation at Primary Children's Hospital
* 1 month research rotation
Our program offers two different tracks to fulfill these requirements:
One-year clinical track
Alternative Pathway: Two-year combined clinical and research track with an opportunity to obtain formal research training and an advanced degree (Master of Science in Clinical Investigation, MSCI)
Discretionary Funds Up to $3,000 in discretionary funds will be provided to you each academic year by the Division of Nephrology & Hypertension. These funds are to be used for out-of-town medical or scientific meetings, books, memberships, journals, and other educational materials. These funds are to be utilized for educational and academic purposes to support your effort and should be used within University purchasing guidelines.

Call Schedule
One weekday call/week when on inpatient service, no weekend call.

Job Requirements:
Candidates must have completed or be on track to complete an accredited US general nephrology fellowship. Candidates must have completed either accredited US internal medicine residency or non-US internal medicine residency (alternate pathway).
