Position Purpose: Adjunct instructors are responsible for teaching assigned courses within their respective programs, which include Welding Technology, Precision Machining, Industrial Maintenance, and Economics. They report to the Dean of Career & Technical Education or relevant department heads.

Essential Job Functions:

  • General Duties:

    • Conduct engaging and effective classroom lectures and/or online discussions.
    • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and participation.
    • Utilize a variety of teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles.
    • Provide timely and constructive feedback on student assignments and exams.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance.
    • Collaborate with lead instructors and department staff on curriculum development and improvement.
    • Utilize educational technology, including Canvas LMS, Starfish, and other relevant tools.
    • Meet SFCC expectations for in-service attendance and mandatory training completion.
    • Complete other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator, Lead Instructor, and Associate Dean.

  • Welding Technology:

    • Conduct welding classes covering techniques like Gas Metal Arc Welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, and Flux Cored Arc Welding.
    • Develop and deliver instructional materials and hands-on activities.
    • Supervise students in the welding lab and maintain program facilities and equipment.

  • Precision Machining:

    • Teach courses such as Introduction to Machining, CNC Machining, Lathe and Milling Machine Operation, and Computer-Aided Manufacturing.
    • Ensure timely responses to student emails and maintain an updated grade book.

  • Industrial Maintenance:

    • Instruct courses like Industrial Mechanics, Fluid Power, Electrical Control Circuits, Motor Controls, and PLCs.
    • Maintain communication with lead instructors and directors and meet attendance and grade entry deadlines.

  • Economics:

    • Conduct classroom lectures, facilitate in-person and online discussions and engage students in hands-on activities and interactive instruction on economic topics such as demand and supply, market structures, costs of production, and comparative advantage.
    • Provide a current course syllabus, engage in and report course outcomes assessments, maintain communication with lead instructor, and meet attendance and grade entry deadlines.

Required Qualifications:

  • General Requirements:

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to interact positively with a diverse range of people both on and off-campus.
    • Commitment to the philosophy and mission of the community college.

  • Welding Technology:

    • Minimum of a Welding Certificate with five years of welding experience OR
    • Associate degree in a Welding-related field with two years of welding experience.
    • College-level instructional experience preferred.

  • Precision Machining:

    • Associate degree in a related technical field with at least 3 years of pertinent work experience OR
    • Five years of pertinent work experience OR
    • Completed one level higher MINS and an Associates Degree in a technical related field

  • Industrial Maintenance:

    • Bachelor's degree in an Industrial Technology-related field with five years of experience or ten years of experience in Industrial Maintenance, Industrial Technology, maintenance procedures, troubleshooting, quality control and management, total productive maintenance, OSHA, NEC.

  • Economics:

    • Master's degree in Economics OR
    • Master's degree in a related field with 18 graduate hours in Economics.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent sitting with occasional walking, standing, and stooping.
  • Occasional need to lift objects up to 10 pounds.
