Job Description:

The School of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts at Texas A&M University, College Station (effective Aug. 15, 2024 the School of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts will change its name to the College of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts) invites applications for one (1) non-tenure, full-time, Visiting Lecturer in Film and Media Studies with a nine-month appointment beginning in Fall 2024 for the 20242025 academic year. The College seeks an individual with a broad knowledge of film history, both global and US, and the tools and methods of film and media analysis to teach our large lecture gateway course in the history of film. The applicant will also be expected to teach the Introduction to Film Analysis course, also a large lecture format class. Both courses are designed to meet the universitys international and cultural diversity learning outcomes by articulating the value of diverse and global perspectives and by recognizing diverse opinions and practices and considering different points of view. The course load is four courses in the fall and four courses in the spring.

The appointment may be renewed contingent upon continuing school funding of the position.

The School of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts is a college within the Texas A&M University System and has a diverse and dynamic mission with more than 70 faculty and 30 staff members and a projected exponential growth in the next 5 years. The college was formed from three departments/programs spread across the university: the Department of Visualization, the Department of Performance Studies (which included the Film Studies Program), and the Dance Science Program. The mission of PVFA places a heavy emphasis on faculty and student collaboration and interdisciplinary work in both scholarly and creative research. Texas A&M University leadership has charged the college with developing innovative research and creative works, public performances, and degree offerings at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels that build upon our strength in merging art and science, as well as the traditional fields of music, dance, art, and theater. Qualifications

The applicant must have a terminal degree (PhD or MFA) or MA in film and media studies or related fields and must have previous experience in teaching large-enrollment lecturer courses on filmor in a related fieldat the university level.
