We are seeking a full-time Engineering Technician in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for the building, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying basic developmental electronic circuits, engineering equipment, and systems.
Essential Functions
Perform basic PCB and unit modifications including adjusting, calibrating, aligning, and/or modifying circuitry and components and record effects on unit performance and learn skills for handling more difficult hardware modifications
Prepares and executes electrical rework and software updates on lab prototypes
Perform precise and detailed soldering and desoldering of small electrical components including CSP packaged ICs and small SMT components (01005/0402M)
Sets up and executes product test plans and provides detailed test reports with assistance
Perform tests and/or calibrations in accordance with plans and procedures
Thoroughly documents work in an organized manner, maintain and ensure the integrity of test equipment and records
Assist Design and Antenna Design Engineers through reading schematics, understanding and debugging basic circuits to the component level
Perform electrical circuit prototyping, breadboard construction and troubleshooting including reading/following schematics and layout drawings to identify solder and assembly problems and correcting problems, with assistance
Able to operate basic and advanced lab test equipment to test and troubleshoot test failures, including using equipment such as PCB milling machines, multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzer, and logic analyzers
Write technical reports, including documentation of the test setup, block diagrams, and test setup schematics to fully document test results and analysis
Recommend design improvements and changes in basic circuitry or assembly methods to improve reliability or simplify assembly and maintenance and learn to be an expert in difficult hardware modifications
Works collaboratively and professionally in a team environment with other Garmin associates to achieve goals including sharing ideas and information freely and positively
Basic Qualifications
Associate's Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering Technology or another substantially similar electronics or technical field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Ability to read schematics, understand and debug basic circuits, and apply test processes and methods to verify design and product performance
Demonstrates the ability to operate basic and advanced lab equipment including PCB milling machines, oscilloscopes, EMC analyzers, etc.
Understands product test plans and procedures including FCC, CE, and live GPS testing
Ability to bend, twist and lift up to 75 pounds while using safe lifting techniques, and pushing/pulling test equipment racks of up to 200 pounds, standing for an entire shift, climbing and utilizing ladders to connect cables and walking long distances throughout the facility
Desired Qualifications
2 years' experience performing these functions in an engineering or manufacturing environment
Superior academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5 as a general rule)
Mechanical prototyping skills
