Role Summary: As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in conceptualizing, designing, and optimizing automation equipment and tooling. Your work will adhere to industry standards while incorporating creativity and practical engineering practices. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you'll create detailed 3D models, validate design concepts, and ensure seamless integration with electrical, controls, and software components.
Responsibilities:
Design and Development:
Create mechanical systems and components for automation manufacturing equipment.
Utilize CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) to develop detailed designs.
Conceptualization:
Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and project managers to define design requirements based on project specifications.
Ensure alignment with manufacturing goals.
Prototype and Testing:
Develop and validate design concepts through functional testing.
Prepare technical drawings and 3D models.
Design Optimization:
Continuously evaluate and enhance mechanical designs for performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.
Adhere to industry regulations.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain comprehensive design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and bills of materials (BOM).
Track design change records.
Collaboration:
Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical designs seamlessly.
Coordinate with electrical, controls, and software engineers.
Vendor Management:
Liaise with external vendors and suppliers to source high-quality components.
Review quotations and ensure timely delivery for prototype construction and manufacturing.
Continuous Improvement:
Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends.
Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction in mechanical design methodologies.
Education and Skills:
Minimum 5 years of proven experience in mechanical design.
Strong proficiency in CAD software, with a preference for SolidWorks.
Thorough knowledge of manufacturing principles and commercial technology.
Familiarity with assembly, machining, and welding processes.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a deadline-driven environment.
Strong organizational skills for handling multiple projects simultaneously.
