Job Summary
The Part-Time Catering Assistant Manager is responsible for or assists with the management, administration and/or production activities related to IU Catering events and operations.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Hires, schedules and supervises employees, including assisting in the corrective action process for part-time staff.
Provides exceptional guest service and oversees the execution of events.
Works with the Catering Area Manager and Catering Managers in the areas of inventory control, guest service and coordination of special events and conferences.
Assists with brand management.
Represents the Catering management team in the absence of the Catering Manager and/or Catering Assistant Managers.
Works alongside front-line staff to meet operational needs in cases of short staffing or high-volume service periods.
May include responsibilities an assortment of tasks related to people leadership, event management and purchasing/production, or may be concentrated in one area as determined by the requirements of the operation.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
General knowledge at the high school level.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
1 year of food service supervisory experience.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Required
Food Safety (ServSafe Manager) certification within 180 days from date of hire.
SKILLS
Required
Knowledge of institutional food preparation equipment operation and maintenance.
Knowledge and practice of department standards for personal hygiene, health and safety and uniform wear.
Knowledge of standards as described in employee handbooks and department postings.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Ability to read and interpret recipes, worksheets, and menus.
Strong communication skills.
Working Conditions / Demands
This position requires tasks typically associated with back-of-the-house food service work. It involves periods of both sedentary work and times of frequent movement about the workspace. Using commercial kitchen equipment and tools, moving supplies weighing from 20 to 50 pounds, and effective communication skills are necessary. This role also will work around both hot and cold temperatures and loud noises. This role involves working with meat and plant-based food products as well as a variety of ingredients that may include some or all of the top 9 allergens in the preparation of menu items. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This position will work at least 16 hours per week. Position is capped at 29 hours per week.
