Position Summary Serving as a key member of the University Advancement team, the Major Gift Officer (MGO) will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gift prospects. Personally developing and managing their portfolio, the MGO will secure major gifts of $50K+, with a focus on gifts at $100K, to support the University’s strategic priorities. They will also leverage the Athletics programs to cultivate annual donors with a history of giving at the $1K-$25K levels and who hold promise of greater giving levels over time.
Essential Duties DONOR CULTIVATION & SOLICITATION
  • Develop an annual work plan for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts focused on the University’s fundraising priorities.
  • Manage and cultivate a portfolio of 100-125 annual ($1K-$25K) and major gift prospects ($50K+) who represent alumni of the School of Business, School of Nursing & Health Sciences, and School of Arts & Sciences, as well as athletic supporters, parents, and friends, with a year one goal of raising $500,000.
  • Develop and maintain a broad and deep understanding of the University’s programs, priorities, and strategic plans to effectively communicate and engage donors.
  • Develop, write, and submit major gift proposals.
  • Devise and implement personalized strategies to engage donors and prospects. Assume stewardship responsibilities for donors.
  • Conduct face-to-face meetings, including local and regional travel within the Philadelphia metro area.
  • Work to achieve stated metrics and goals; provide transparency into donor activities by documenting detailed call reports in Salesforce for each prospect visit regarding donor’s affinity and ability to give to the identified priorities.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of donor interactions and solicitations Salesforce. Provide detailed reports and analysis of fundraising activities, progress towards goals, and emerging opportunities.
  • Represent La Salle University at various events, meetings, and gatherings to build and maintain relationships with alumni, friends, and supporters.

STRATEGIC COLLABORATION
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Vice President of Development, advancement leadership, and other team members to develop fundraising strategies that support institutional goals.
  • Partner with colleagues across departments to leverage connections and maximize individual donor engagement opportunities.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of major fundraising initiatives, including capital improvements and new campaigns.
  • Assist in the onboarding and mentoring of new team members, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
Secondary Responsibilities OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
  • La Salle is building and growing, and this position will support those efforts with other duties and projects as assigned by leadership from time to time.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 3+ years of demonstrated successful experience in relationship management (fundraising, alumni relations, sales, or related experience). Candidates with fundraising and solicitation experience in higher education will be prioritized.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills; articulating values, information, and compelling cases of support to multiple audiences, one-on-one, and through formal proposals and/or presentations.
  • Experience organizing and managing multiple projects/tasks simultaneously; can work independently and as part of a team; able to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strategic thinker able to navigate complexity, understand the role of individuals in higher education philanthropy; able to communicate and collaborate effectively with alumni, donors, university administrators, and faculty.
  • Able to deal with a variety of situations with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Aptitude for research and data mining; strong orientation towards customer service, prioritization of tasks; project management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate well to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Poised and engaging with an intellectual depth, maturity, judgement, and professionalism to earn the confidence and trust of both colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook; knowledge of Salesforce or similar database; and the willingness to learn new technologies.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit, one that takes initiative and actively seeks to nurture existing relationships and foster new ones.
  • A strong drive to be successful paired with integrity and sincerity.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of La Salle University.
  • Willingness to engage in extensive local and regional travel.
  • Bachelor’s degree; equivalent work experience will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours
  • This position requires some local, regional, and potentially national travel to visit with prospective donors.
  • Some events will require work hours outside of the typical business day and/or on weekends.
