Job Description:

The Perioperative Supervisor manages the day-to-day operational needs of the CARTI OR/SPD which includes overseeing the nursing care provided to patients having operative or other invasive procedures and the central processing department. Able to naturally operate in a very complex and fast-paced medical environment. Ensures services are provided in accordance with professional, regulatory, and accrediting standards, and that patients and stakeholders are the focus of all operational and business activities.

SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages day-to-day operations of OR/SPD and ensures the center is operating and in compliance with organizational policies and procedures, safety, regulatory and accreditation standards. Manages performance expectations and departmental objectives for team members to ensure knowledge, competency, efficiency, safety and productivity.
Incorporate and assist perioperative personnel with assimilating evidence-based practices into patient care. Verify that educational resources are available for perioperative team member's education and hold perioperative team members accountable for attendance and completion. Assist perioperative team in evaluating practice and creating best practices for the Surgery Center.
Responsible for overseeing and managing the central sterile processing areas supporting perioperative services and coordinating the reprocessing of and delivery of items to other areas within the Surgery Center.
Collect, analyze, evaluate, and implement effective sterile processing services using key indicators and organizational objectives. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to improve sterile processing services. Support and integrate current evidence into sterile processing services.
Develops performance expectations and departmental objectives for team members to ensure knowledge, competency, efficiency, safety, and productivity for the Surgery Center.
Manage and ensure all necessary Surgery Center personnel, equipment, and supplies are available.
Manages Surgery Center personnel including nursing, non-licensed team members, and central processing staff daily. Participates in leadership activities including interviewing, hiring, developing, training, scheduling, duty assignments, disciplinary actions, ongoing and annual evaluations. Coaches staff and holds them accountable to effective prioritization of duties, management of time, critical decision-making, scope of practice, role fulfillment and appropriate documentation.
Other duties as assigned.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Actively manages the team of nurses, non-licensed and technical team members, sterile processing technicians, and other team members in the Ambulatory Surgery Center.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, REGISTRATION:

Bachelor's degree in nursing
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
Current and unrestricted nursing license to practice in Arkansas.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
Certified Nurse, Operating Room (CNOR) certification


PREFERRED:

Master's degree in nursing, business, or other related field
Two years of management or specialty team leader experience
Advanced computer skills (e.g., Microsoft® PowerPoint, Excel)


EXPERIENCE:

Five years varied perioperative services experience and healthcare leadership experience
Strong team building skills.
Experience in MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Power Point.
High attention to detail and accuracy and ability to manage multiple tasks.
Strong organizational skills.
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.


REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.


INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Must interact and communicate effectively both verbally and in written form.
Must interact and exchange information regarding patients with physicians and other departmental personnel, and outside agencies on a frequent basis while respecting the confidentiality of patient information.
