Position Overview & Job Duties:


The instructor is a faculty member who supports the Speech-Language Pathology program though duties including assisting the coordinator of clinical services, supervision, documentation, and teaching discipline specific courses. The instructor provides a quality learning experience for students by teaching, advising and mentoring students, evaluating student performance, and maintaining department and student records in accordance with university policies. The successful candidate will adhere to the educational philosophy of the university, work in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers and participate in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Faculty report to a dean or chair and perform instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies and procedures of the college. This is a full-time, non-tenure track position and may be continued for the following academic year upon the recommendation of the chair/director or dean.


The faculty member will assist the UCO Speech-Language Pathology program with duties and services related to clinical services, including the program's Therapeutic Preschool. The faculty member will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses as assigned; position preference to experience and credentials to teach Signing Exact English (SEE) with experience in American Sign Language. The faculty member may be responsible for teaching graduate courses in area(s) of expertise and experience. Other responsibilities may include assisting in coordination of off-campus assignment of students to medical and public-school practicum settings to satisfy degree, certification, and licensure requirements. Other responsibilities may include Coordinator of Clinical Skills Reflections, Supervision of graduate clinicians, and Supervision of Graduate Assistants in the Therapeutic Preschool. The faculty member is responsible for maintenance and compliance with activities or documentation as necessary to assist with ongoing program CAA accreditation.



College/Department Overview:


The College of Education and Professional Studies currently has 100 full-time and over 100 part-time faculty organized in seven departments. The college offers 23 undergraduate majors and 28 graduate majors. All teacher education programs are CAEP accredited. Other programs are recognized at the state and national levels with accreditations by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the American Dietetic Association (ADA), the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR), and the Oklahoma Educational Quality and Accountability Commission (OEQA). UCO's College of Education and Professional Studies has an enrollment of nearly 4,800 students, about one-fourth of whom are graduate students. Experience Required:


An earned Master's degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). The successful candidate will possess excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Must have 3+ years of progressively responsible experiences in chosen field or combination of relevant experience and education. Must hold ASHA CCC-SLP and hold or qualify to hold Oklahoma license in Speech-Language Pathology.



Experience Preferred:


An earned PhD is preferred. Current or potential ability in fluent use of sign language is preferred in addition to prior experience with children presenting multiple handicaps, learning differences, language and speech disorders, and hearing impairment.



Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:


Previous teaching experience in a higher education environment is preferred. Candidate must provide evidence of teaching effectiveness/excellence. Current or potential ability in fluent use of sign language is preferred in addition to prior experience with children presenting multiple handicaps, hearing impairment, and language and speech disorders. Candidate must be professionally qualified under ASHA with CCC-SLP certification and a minimum of three years of experience and the ability to maintain ongoing professional credentials. Skill in team building; coaching; mentoring; supervision; conflict resolution, delegation, problem-solving, and understanding diversity is desired. The successful candidate will be able to comply with the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook.
