Position Summary:

This is a full-time position providing access services for Oesterle Library.


Description of Key Responsibilities:


STUDENT AND STAFF MANAGEMENT

1. Manage the student assistant program including leading the hiring, scheduling, and performance review teams for all student assistant positions. Leads in planning for student assistant orientation, training, and recognition events.
2. Supervises Library Access Services Assistant.
3. Trains all student assistants on customer service expectations.
4. Maintains student assistant schedules for the Information Desk and the Circulation Desk.
5. Manages daily operations of access services student assistants including training, monitoring attendance, assign and oversee work assignments, and provide feedback regarding work performance.
6. Maintains student assistant website, including documentation, training and contact information.
7. Maintains student assistant files.


CIRCULATION

1. Manages the Circulation Desk. Monitors customer service expectations of Circulation Desk staff.
2. Prepares access services training materials for both staff and student assistants working at the Information Desk and the Circulation Desk.
3. Manages circulation operations, including questions regarding circulation policies and status of circulating materials. Collects circulation statistics.
4. Provides services at the Circulation Desk and the Information Desk as scheduled.
5. Maintain patron files in Alma, including adding patrons to the database, monitoring automated patron loads, inputting changes in patron status, issuing courtesy borrowers' cards, answering questions about the status of patrons, and collecting patron file statistics.
6. Manage overdue and billing operations for circulation, reserves, and interlibrary loan which includes oversite of notices and billing letters; assigning and removing holds on patron borrowing privileges; applying and removing holds on Registrar records in Colleague; and answering questions about notices, bills and holds.
7. Maintains procedural documentation for access services operations at the Information Desk and the Circulation Desk and for Access Service staff positions.
8. Manage the distribution and tracking of the University of Chicago cards.
9. Coordinates stacks management operations, including continuously checking the condition of stacks and, when necessary, shelve, shelf read, and/or shift materials, collecting statistics, and maintaining documentation of all procedures. Coordinate access services role in collection inventory.
10. Supervise course related resource needs via Reserves and/or Leganto and procure/supply resources via I-Share and interlibrary loan as needed.
11. Cooperate as a team member with library staff in performing any duties essential to efficient library services.
12. Fulfill other duties as appropriately assigned.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

The individual in this position directs and coordinates the access services operations at the Information Desk and Circulation Desk, and directs stacks management. This individual manages the student assistant program and leads the hiring and scheduling for most student assistant positions. This individual trains and supervises student assistant work in access services and maintains student assistant schedules for both service desks. This position also supports course-related resource needs as well as procuring resources via I-Share and interlibrary loan. The individual in this position must cooperate as a team member in performing any duties essential to library operations. This position requires extensive interaction with students, faculty, staff and external constituencies, and thus excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.


Education/Training:

An associate's degree or equivalent work experience is required.


Experience:

Library experience or training required; supervisory experience required.
