Job Summary



The Application Administrator in the Information Technology department at the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business is responsible for production application system support, application configuration, and software release management. The ideal candidate will have application development and database experience, and strong problem analysis skills. The position interacts regularly with other Information Technology staff as well as end users and vendor personnel, thus requiring excellent verbal and written communication skills.



Responsibilities



  • Provides daily support of multiple mission critical production systems, including the troubleshooting of production problems and determination of root cause of issues.

  • Reviews, analyzes and resolves data-related issues (schema, invalid data, incorrect format, etc.)

  • Works with application developers and end-users as necessary to diagnose system errors.

  • Tracks vendor software release schedules; coordinates testing and installation of new versions of software.

  • Supports end users as an application subject matter expert by responding to questions about application configuration, capabilities, and functionality.

  • Manages application and database roles and permissions.

  • Maintains application and data environments for development, test, staging, and production.

  • Migrates applications from test environments to the production environment.

  • Accesses confidential information in central and local systems.

  • Configures, installs, upgrades, and maintains server applications and hardware. Works to safeguard the integrity of computer software. Implements operating system enhancements to improve the reliability and performance of the system.

  • Tracks compliance and maintains documentation for hardware, software, and service inventories for management reports.

  • Performs other related work as needed.




Minimum Qualifications




Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Experience:



  • A minimum four years of relevant experience in the information technology field.




Technical Skills or Knowledge:



  • Strong proficiency with relational databases and SQL language.

  • Microsoft Team Foundation Server, Microsoft Visual Studio experience.

  • Experience with Windows environments.

  • Application deployment experience.

  • Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills, as well as organizational skills.

  • Outstanding deductive and investigative skills to identify and diagnose complex, non-intuitive technical problems.

  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously, adjust priorities, when necessary, consistently meet deadlines and set delivery expectations.

  • Work independently with little supervision; possess a self-motivated disposition; identify opportunities for improvement and recommend effective changes, all while achieving key objectives resulting in desired outcomes.

  • Handle multiple detailed tasks/projects simultaneously and meet strict deadlines with frequent interruptions.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and diplomatically with colleagues, as well as with students, faculty, and corporate contacts in a multitude of communication methods i.e., in person, email, phone.
