Luddy Career Services partners with students in the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering as well as employers recruiting for technology, information, and engineering opportunities.


We serve Luddy students in all levels of their career development, from exploratory and pre-major students to those pursuing undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees, in addition to our alumni.


Our mission is to provide opportunities and resources that will empower students to define their career goals, develop professional life skills, obtain related experience, and realize their career potential.



Job Summary



Department-Specific Responsibilities


  • Develops and amends career course curriculum

  • Teaches 6-8 sections of career development courses per year

  • Advises students in 1-on-1 meetings.

  • Develops career education and development strategies for Luddy Career Services, including the best ways to present career information to help students make successful career decisions.

  • Stays current on trends in the technology and other closely-related industries to knowledgeably inform students of competencies employers seek; help students find new and different ways to communicate their value to employers.

  • Provides individualized career advising to students. Appointment topics include self-assessment (helping students identify their skills, interests, values, and personality), career exploration and decision-making, resume and cover letter critiques, job search strategies, interview preparation (including conducting mock interviews and providing feedback), and salary/job offer negotiation.

  • Hires, trains, and supervises staff members including Assistant/Associate Director(s), graduate assistants, practicum students, graduate interns, and/or associate instructors.

  • Collaborates with colleagues within Luddy and on the IUB campus to ensure career success for Luddy students.

  • Develops and presents career workshops and programming to Luddy students.

General Responsibilities


  • Assists with professional and career development of students and alumni through career assessments, exploration, decision-making, goal setting, and planning. Focuses efforts on resume building, interview skill development, mock interview, and job search preparation and navigation; graduate school application and interview preparation through counseling appointments and consultations.

  • Develops and delivers workshops on career development which include networking strategies, interviewing, resume and cover letter writing skills, portfolio development, and using the internet for career search.

  • Supports faculty and students with career exploration, internships, job shadow experiences, presentations, and facilitation of resources available for career development.

  • Serves on various community and institutional committees to build partnerships across the university and among comparable universities to build knowledge base.

  • Assists in the process of collecting and tracking data for office assessment purposes. Utilizes data to assist in the creation of office objectives and goals to meet the needs of the student population.

  • Works through issues with a variety of stakeholders: students, employers, alumni, and faculty. Identifies and capitalizes on connections between groups of stakeholders and leverage those connections in unique ways through events and interactions

  • May provide guidance and delegate administrative tasks to other career services staff.

  • May make process recommendations for improved operational efficiency.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.


EDUCATION



Required



  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field


Preferred



  • Master's degree in related field

Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary



Selected candidate will be made an offer between $65,000.04/yr and $70,000.08/yr dependent on commensurate experience and internal equity.



Work Hours



Typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8am - 5pm (EST); however, occasional evening and/or weekend hours may be required.
