Centering the values of Care, Integrity, Respect, Community, Learning, and Equity, the OSC oversees the management and resolution of personal, academic, organizational and sexual misconduct (Title IX) cases on behalf of the university and in alignment with Indiana University's Code of Student Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct. The OSC offers several resolution types including informal, alternative resolution, restorative justice, mediation, and formal resolutions. The office also facilitates learning opportunities for students through conflict-coaching, seminars, and online based classes.
Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Oversees the Indiana University B student conduct process and programs fairly and equitably, including alternative dispute resolutions, with an emphasis on student learning and community safety.
Understands fully the Code of Student Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct and the Procedures for IUB, in order to serve as a campus resource for students, faculty, staff, and others. Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates the staff in the Office of Student Conduct.
Provides direct supervision to 2 associate directors and 1 administrative support staff member.
Serves as leadership for 7 full time staff and multiple part-time, student, and hourly staff; additional functional supervision of other university staff who work with the conduct process including residence life staff.
Oversees case management process and procedures for key areas of student misconduct, including: personal/individual misconduct, academic misconduct, organization misconduct, and sexual misconduct.
Implements, updates, and assesses learning-based programs, including office-taught seminars.
Oversees the training process for all hearing officers and boards that assist with student conduct hearings.
Serves as an investigator and hearing officer as required.
Directs the Code revision process, working with the governing groups whose approval is necessary for adoption of the Code, and providing leadership in the revision process, as needed.
Provides administrative leadership and oversight for record keeping and Maxient database management.
Serves as one of IUB's Title IX Deputy Coordinators responsible for receiving reports of possible gender/sex discrimination, harassment, retaliation, overseeing the office's initial response and coordinating the adjudication process of those allegations if applicable.
Be available to meet with and receive complaints from individual complainants or reporting parties.
Works in coordination with the university's Associate Vice President and Chief Title IX Coordinator in the Office of Institutional Equity to ensure compliance with university policy and procedure during the investigation stage.
Coordinates the adjudication process as well as any administrative follow-up in record keeping or sanction tracking.
Adheres to all federal and state laws and university policies, including Title IX, the Clery Act, Violence Against Women Act, and the Campus SaveAct, aimed at prohibiting and effectively responding to gender-based discrimination, sexual violence, and retaliation.
Attends campus coalition against sexual assault meetings. Facilitates consultations for interim and summary suspension eligible cases. Manages fiscal accounts for department with integrity, accuracy, and accountability. Tracks and reports Clery crime reports to IUPD.
Tracks and reports student sexual misconduct data to the university Title IX office and campus officials.
Participates in behavioral data collection, assessment, and response in partnership with other offices regarding trending campus issues.
Meets regularly with Office of Student Life, Indiana University Police Department, Residential Programs and Services, Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life, Substance Use Intervention Services, Office of Institutional Equity, Athletics, and other campus and university officials as needed, to review critical incident reports and coordinate threat assessment.
Serves on appropriate Student Life and campus committees, including the Substance Use Coalition, CARE team meetings, BIT meetings, and the admissions Committee on Arrests and Discipline.
Serves on the Dean of Students on-call rotation for campus crisis response.
Other duties as assigned.
General Responsibilities
Provides highest level of operational leadership and coordination of assigned staff members to define student conduct methodologies and standards; provides direction and guidance on high priority student conduct projects/initiatives.
Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives, including managing project timelines/deliverables and developing resource plans for multi-project/multi-phase student conduct initiatives.
Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but not limited to hiring, promotion, performance management, and dismissal.
Manages high level assignments and allocation of student conduct resources, including negotiating and coordinating initiatives that involve staff in other departments/areas/teams; may coordinate large-scale student conduct projects with wide audiences in support of academic initiatives.
Makes budgetary recommendations/proposals based on resource needs and ensures cost containment.
Researches and stays up-to-date on new industry student conduct standards, technologies, policies, and procedures.
Responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures to address business needs.
Works collaboratively with other student services leaders across departments in recommending standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures.
Prepares management reports and summaries for senior administration, executive, steering and advisory committees.
Acts as advisor to executive committees.
Serves on various university committees, communities of practice, and task forces related to student conduct.

EDUCATION
Required
Bachelor's degree in public health, public affairs, counseling, social work, law, or related field
Preferred
Master's degree in higher education student affairs or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
4 years in student conduct, higher education student affairs, or related field
1 year of management experience in relevant field
Preferred
8 years in a student conduct, higher education student affairs, or related field
3 years of supervision or management in a relevant field

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
