Job Description:

Position Overview: Reporting to the East Division Engineering Manager, this position will be responsible for the electrical design and project management of various large capital projects for aggregate processing plants and rail/marine distribution facilities in the East Division. This position will collaborate with the mechanical engineering team to support projects with electrical system guidance and design. Typical projects will range from $100K to $5M+.



Responsibilities and Duties:



  • Responsible for project site safety and environmental compliance

  • Oversee and direct the electrical project from initial concept through commissioning and closeout

  • Prepare electrical project scope, budget, and designs of medium and low voltage electrical distribution systems incorporating switchboards, motor control centers, transformers, soft starts, and variable frequency drives associated with processing plant EPC projects

  • Provide the specifications for electrical construction and equipment procurement

  • Prepare, coordinate, and evaluate power system studies (i.e. short circuit, voltage drop, motor starting, relay coordination, load flow, harmonics, arc flash, etc.)

  • Anticipate project issues regarding schedule, budget, and safety and implement appropriate mitigation

  • Communicate project status, deliverables, and performance to division management

  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with electrical contractors. Work to expand the quantity and quality of electrical contractors available for bidding.

  • Coordinate electrical installation and design with electrical utility provider, mechanical installation, and automation groups

  • Participate in factory acceptance testing and field start-ups of equipment

  • Direct the work of contractors and plant personnel during electrical construction and commissioning activities

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously across the respective area of responsibility

  • Prepare equipment and general contractor bid packages and provide recommendations on best value

  • Oversee QA/QC inspection on all project equipment, materials, and construction

  • Support project commissioning and handover to operations

  • Ensure all projects are completed within company guidelines and standards


Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field with an emphasis on industrial power, motors, and motor control applications

  • 5+ years' experience in electrical installation or design

  • Experience with 15kv/5kv/480V industrial power systems

  • Experience with the preparation of project scope documents, technical specifications, and RFQ packages related to power distribution, motor, and motor control equipment

  • Experience with the specification, selection, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of medium and low voltage industrial power distribution equipment such as motors, transformers, switchgear, VFDs, soft starters, and motor control centers

  • Basic understanding of interfacing to industrial PLC systems

  • Understanding of NFPA 70/70E and applicable industrial electrical standards (UL, ISA, IEEE, NEMA, etc.)

  • Previous experience with mining preferred

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Easy Power, and Microsoft Office Suite

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Out of town travel required 25%-50% of time

  • Ability to physically travel to job sites and work in and around construction environments

  • Must be willing to work in all weather conditions including heat, cold, dust, noise, etc.

  • Must be able to perform duties in a safe manner
