The Database Specialist is an established performer that works to facilitate and support the monitoring, maintenance, and operational support of the entire portfolio of databases. This role will be responsible for database tasks from software upgrades and custom interfaces to troubleshooting business issues.



Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Maintain reliability, stability, and data integrity of the databases.
  • Provide support in the administration, backup, integrity, and security of various SQL databases.
  • Continually assess, improve, and optimize our current database environment.
  • Monitor performance of database systems resources and query throughput.
  • Optimize Oracle code as necessary.
  • Maintain Oracle database security, comply with company's SOX auditing, adhere to internal change management, configuration management, security management, and PMO processes.
  • Familiar with install, configure, upgrade and support Oracle RAC databases and Standby databases.
  • Familiar with Unix Shell scripts, Oracle SQL, DOS batch script to maintain and develop scripts to send alerts on backup database and database issue
  • Develop and support Oracle RMAN backup scripts to back up databases to the external storage device. For example, RMAN uses Dell's DDBoost.
  • Troubleshooting Oracle performance issue with Oracle statspack, AWR reports, and OEM.
  • Monitor and maintain database storage resources.
  • Monitor and maintain database maintenance plans for backups, index rebuild/defragment, and database statistics.
  • Work on projects and assignments as part of a large work team.
  • Perform accurate analyses, conduct research, and draw meaningful conclusions about potential job/work-area impacts.
  • Perform database ad-hoc backups and restores.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database connectivity issues.
  • Effectively apply functional, process, and procedural or technical knowledge to address business challenges.
  • Proactively monitor and respond to Oracle database alerts.
  • On-call requirements to ensure 24 x 7 support of database operations.
  • Perform other duties as needed.



Required Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • 2-4 years' relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1+ years of Oracle Server database development / programming.
  • Experience with Oracle DB administration
  • Experience with Monitoring & Diagnostic tools.
  • Familiar with Windows, Linux, and AIX system.
  • Knowledge of VMWare and hypervisor use with Oracle databases.

  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
  • High level of integrity and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential data.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite products.
