Following the initial four-month training program, evaluations will continue every six months until candidates reach the required minimum years to be eligible for a full time Plumber position and growth opportunity beyond.

Tools and uniforms are provided!
This four-year program will allow employees to develop the necessary skills in the following areas:
- Basic maintenance of building systems
- Maintaining inventory of required parts
- Developing communication skills
- Inspecting buildings and equipment for deficiencies
- Plumbing or piping systems maintenance & repair
About Facilities Management:
Facilities Management (FM) is a service unit of approximately 500 employees who work behind the scenes, 24 hours a day, serving the University of Iowa as stewards for our downtown Iowa City campus and Oakdale campus in Coralville. FM staff coordinate campus master planning, manage design and construction, and maintain and clean the buildings and grounds.
Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm with overtime as required.
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Special Qualifications:
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet and maintain UI Fleet Safety Standards.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Current University of Iowa employee in good standing.
- Mechanical aptitude and previous mechanical or plumbing training or experience.
- Ability to use equipment and tools effectively to perform essential job functions of the job with or without accommodations.
- Ability to move for extended periods of time.
- Ability to prioritize and organize multiple tasks.
- Basic knowledge of safety measures.
- Practiced critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrated basic computer skills.
- Works well supervised or unsupervised.
- Ability to work in a team setting.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Respectful communications in all interactions, including ability to work with and around people from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
- Good customer interaction skills.
