BSD MED - Rheumatology - Clark Research Staff



About the Department



The Section of Rheumatology is a dynamic and growing enterprise of approximately forty faculty, staff, and fellows who are committed to providing outstanding state-of-the-art patient care, understanding the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases, and training the next generation of physicians and scientists. We have well-developed basic science research programs where our primary focus is on understanding the development and regulation of lymphocytes which is fundamental to the pathogenesis of most autoimmune diseases.


These are exciting times in Rheumatology. Remarkable advances in our knowledge of basic immunology are beginning to translate into new and better treatments for those suffering from autoimmune and metabolic diseases. The Section is well poised to both take advantage and contribute to these revolutions in the understanding and treatment of rheumatic diseases.



Job Summary



The Data Science Analyst will work to improve and maintain algorithms for accurate detection, segmentation, and classification of cells and structures in biomedical microscopy images. This position will work with a team of researchers to streamline analytical pipelines and customize algorithms to help investigate specific hypotheses surrounding immune cell organization in various autoimmune disorders. The candidate should be proficient in Python with a familiarity of specific libraries/APIs including sci-kit learn, pandas, skimage, and PyTorch. As the candidate will be working within a team, strong intrapersonal and communication skills are a must.



Responsibilities



  • Optimize and maintain algorithms for accurate quantification of biomedical microscopy images.


  • Validate performance of algorithms on novel datasets.


  • Properly version and document all updates and additions to code and pipelines.


  • Work with a team to drive innovation when analyzing new data.


  • Analyzes moderately complex data sets for the purpose of extracting and purposefully using applicable information.


  • Provides professional support to staff or faculty members in defining the project and applying principals of data science in manipulation, statistical applications, programming, analysis and modeling.


  • Performs other related work as needed.





Minimum Qualifications




Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science or relevant field.





Preferred Competencies



  • Proficiency in Python and BASH; familiarity with SLURM and PyTorch.


  • Familiarity with processing and managing image data.

  • Strong Analytical skills.


  • Problem-solving skills.


  • Organizational skills.


  • Verbal and written communication skills.


  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
