Role Summary



The Technology Learning & Communications Trainer ("the Trainer") will build and run the Shearman Learning Management System (LMS). This individual will also build and deliver training content and/or learning materials in collaboration with other departments and firm leadership to ensure that firm personnel have the skills required to perform their jobs effectively.


The Trainer will partner with other departments to develop, implement, and execute the Global Mandatory Trainings for the firm. This individual will evaluate Global Technology Solutions (GTS) training programs and content to ensure that training solutions continue to meet business needs. The Trainer will work closely with other GTS teams to ensure cohesiveness in design, implementation and communication platforms of all training programs.


The Trainer will assist with the preparation and distribution of communications both within the GTS team and for external communications to the Firm.



Key Responsibilities


  • Support all Learning Management System operations.

  • Run Global Mandatory Trainings in coordination with firm departments and practice groups.

  • Support the Microsoft suite rollouts, which includes: scheduling, creating learning tiles, building out content and working with third party vendors to support development.

  • Provide advanced Excel training for different practice groups, as needed.

  • Perform video editing for Professional Development courses.

  • Facilitate in-person and Web-Ex based training programs and curriculum in accordance with the mission and goals of GTS and the firm. Ensure that all programs are properly maintained and updated as needed.

  • Execute appropriate follow up with participants after the conclusion of a program to obtain feedback and assess whether the program achieved the desired outcome.

  • Research and develop an evaluation method to assess program strengths and identify areas for improvement.

  • Identify, develop and evaluate new learning programs and solutions for the firm's business and practice areas using knowledge of various training methods, such as classroom training, demonstrations, on-the-job training, meetings, conferences, role-play, shadowing/mentorship, and workshops.

  • Participate in and/or lead the development of custom and on-demand Learning Management System (LMS) based training courses.

  • Engage senior leaders in the development of new content to effectively meet the needs of their departments and practice groups. Anticipate additional training needs as the firm continues to develop and work with leadership to develop and implement new training solutions to close knowledge gaps.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, subject matter experts and business unit leads. Provide updates to existing programs and future developments as needed.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and departments to facilitate the successful development of training content and curriculum to ensure a best in class, modern and engaging training experience.

  • Manage multiple project schedules and stakeholders, applying expertise in eLearning tools to implement adult learning theory for a variety of modalities, including online learning, mobile, videos, and micro learning.

  • Produce accurate and timely status reports throughout the lifecycle of various programs at the firm. Report any issues with training content to GTS leadership and help identify solutions.

  • Support GTS training efforts and initiatives throughout the firm and provide input into the GTS training strategy and specific eLearning training plans. Act as a project lead on various firm initiatives where input from the GTS Training team is required.

  • Train other team members on program delivery as needed and ensure that programs are delivered consistently across the firm.

  • Prepare internal communications regarding technology changes in conjunction with GTS team leaders.

  • Prepare Office or Firmwide communications regarding technology changes in conjunction with GTS team leaders.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • 5+ years' experience in a technology, training or learning development position.

  • Prior experience working in a legal or professional services environment preferred.

  • Ability to work outside standard business hours as needed.

  • Flexibility to travel to other firm offices.
