Safety Trainer - Msha at Martin Marietta Materials in Des Moines, Iowa

Martin Marietta is currently looking for an energetic, motivated self-starter to be our Des Moines District Safety Trainer! Under the direction of the Production Manager and Safety Manager, the Safety Trainer will be responsible for Part 46 and Part 48 MSHA training for new miners and refresher training. This position will also participate in Safety Audits throughout the Des Moines District. May be required to complete additional work-related tasks as needed by management.



Essential Functions

1. Lead new hire orientation for all plant and mine hourly employees.


2. Conduct Part 46 and Part 48 training at assigned quarries and mines.


3. Participate in local quarry and mine safety audits, track results, provide local leadership with continuous improvement options and follow up on all action items.


4. Assist with location incident investigations.


5. Assist with safety center administration on observations and near misses for all assigned locations.


6. Participate in MSHA visits at assigned locations.


7. Assist with the coordination of annual SOMA Industrial Hygiene assessments and training for all locations.


8. Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures.


9. Support and advocate all Martin Marietta Safety Programs to include Guardian Angel and the Wingman Culture.


10. Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.



Work Environment



This job operates 90% of the time in mining locations to include quarries, mines and remote offices. 10% of the time will be in an office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.



Position Type/Expected Hours of Work



This is a full-time position. This position may require long hours and weekend work.



Travel



Travel will be frequent and primarily within the Division and assigned District. Out of area and overnight travel will be expected.



Required Education and Experience



1. A high school diploma


2. MSHA Blue Card Holder



Preferred Education and Experience



1. A degree in occupational health and safety, mining or related field.


2. 1 or more years of experience conducting MSHA training
