Garmin Int'l Inc. seeks a Senior Design Engineer (Olathe, KS; multiple positions):
Serves in leadership capacity for carrying out complex design and development of analog, digital or RF designs for products that involve complicated schematics and PCB design consisting of one or more PCB's.
May serve as a Project Engineer on new projects that involve a new design or major changes to an existing design.
Works closely with software engineering and processor manufacturers to turn on new processors.
Partners with Mechanical Engineers to design best PCB solution accounting for thermal and space constraints.
Teams with Production, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, and Software Engineering to ensure robust designs and appropriate testability.
Collaborates and adds value through participation in design reviews, providing comments on electrical design aspects and other engineering areas.
Evaluates new technologies as they apply to existing functions.
Participates in project leadership and/or program planning including providing technical input to product development plans and concept documents.
Makes substantial contributions toward determination of project goal/objective feasibility.
Mentors and provides guidance to less experienced Design Engineers (1 & 2).
Contributes to advanced technical research on new technologies.
Independently determines general approach and specific solutions to technical problems.
Offers process improvement suggestions and authors new procedures as appropriate.
Direct and coordinate manufacture of prototypes.
Provides reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem solving techniques.
Provides technical input to product development plans and concept documents.
Exemplifies Garmin's Mission Statement and Quality Policy and proactively works to improve Garmin's image and culture.
Analyze test data and reports to determine if the proposed design meets functional and performance specifications.
Evaluate engineering test results for possible application to developments of other systems.
Utilizes software tools and test equipment to formulate and test electronic designs.
Support production facilities in the manufacture of products.
Interface with the Test Engineers and factory personnel on the testing and production of the products.
Perform cost/performance tradeoff analysis of different circuit options.
Investigate the usage of the latest components and technologies.
Associates are expected to integrate, use, and provide feedback on products in development when possible as part of their normal job responsibilities.
Associates are permitted to work from home, within commuting distance of the office, up to two days per week provided that their job duties can be performed effectively while working from home, and if they have appropriate approval from their manager.
Full-time remote work is not available.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Communication Engineering, or related plus 5 years of progressive experience in the electrical engineering design and manufacturing environment.
Must have demonstrated experience in the following:
Application of design standards and procedures to design and develop moderately complex power, digital, and RF designs including simulations, schematics, PCB layouts, and evaluation
Ability to test, analyze, and debug circuit boards using a variety of electrical engineering tools including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and network analyzers
Identifying, sourcing, and analyzing appropriate components to meet electrical engineering design needs
Developing platforms and products for Asia-Pacific Automotive OEM customers as part of a cross functional team
Designing, analyzing, and simulating products with high speed interfaces including LPDDR, PCIe, and USB
Analyzing and debugging issues related to signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) requirements for advanced semiconductor chipsets
Modeling and simulating signal integrity and power integrity with Cadence Sigrity
Collaborating with third party semiconductor chipset suppliers to jointly debug issues
In lieu of a Bachelor's plus five years of progressive experience, will accept a Master's plus three years of experience in the same.
