Here’s a little about the Yavapai County Cooperative Extension at the University of Arizona and the position they are recruiting for:   

 

Yavapai Cooperative Extension at the University of Arizona is seeking an Assistant/Associate Agriculture and Natural Resources Agent to provide leadership for Extension Programs in the areas of range management. This is a continuing/continuing eligible faculty position in Yavapai County. The successful candidate will create and supervise community outreach programs and provide leadership in the development and implementation of a science-based educational programing in rangeland management. Using community needs and assessment data, the Agent develops and conducts programs which address priority needs. Works collaboratively with agencies and other partners in Yavapai County and seeks funding to implement and expand programming when needed.  

 

How you can expect to spend your time: 

 

30%- Program Development 

  • Conducts a systematic analysis of national, Arizona, and county data, local resources, and historical Information to identify community assets, program needs, and teaching opportunities. 
  • Identify resources (grants, contracts, in-kind contributions, etc.) to enhance programs.  
  • Work in cooperation with federal and state agencies, stakeholders, community groups, local leaders, Extension advisory groups, and other Extension professionals to develop and implement an annual Plan of Work.  
  • Consults with Extension faculty, Experiment Station researchers, and other experts in the development of educational programs, applied research, and scholarly works. 

 

30%- Program Implementation  

  • Conducts creative programming and utilizes new technology, that may Include problem solving research, to address priority needs of the target audiences.  
  • Participates in statewide working groups to develop new and creative programming efforts.  
  • Prepares educational material, evaluation instruments, teaching materials and publicity information In support of state, county, and community initiatives.  
  • Functions as a resource for other agencies and organizations. Promotes interaction and cooperation among various groups.  
  • Disseminates educational materials through county-wide and/or multi-county events, workshops, websites, newsletters and other mass media methods, use of volunteers, and other methods.  
  • Promotes communication and teamwork with county and state Extension, other faculty and youth professionals.  
  • Promotes Cooperative Extension as the outreach arm of the state land-grant university. 

 

20%- Professionalism  

  • Maintains professional competence through study, participation in professional activities and the application of knowledge and skills on the job.  
  • Maintains high ethical and professional standards and is loyal to Cooperative Extension and the University of Arizona.  
  • Promotes public understanding and support for Extension and University programs. 
  • Performs as a collegial member of Arizona Cooperative Extension. Collegiality is the cooperative Interaction among colleagues where individuals work productively, and interact with civility with faculty, students, staff members, and stakeholders in all environments impacted by the university. 

 

20%- Program Results 

  • Evaluates and documents results and impacts of educational programs.  
  • Communicates program results to both professional peers and clientele through periodic reports, scholarly works, and various types of publications (e.g., bulletins/fact sheets, popular articles, state publications, scientific articles, social media, video and computer programs.  
  • Consults with the County Extension Director to evaluate program effectiveness and personal achievements as an Extension faculty member. 

 

What we would like to see from you: 

  • Master's Degree in rangeland management, natural resources, or related disciplines.  
  • Familiar with semi-arid rangeland plant production systems, sustainable agriculture practices on rangelands, and basic plant taxonomy and identification.  
  • Must possess a valid driver's license upon employment, provide own transportation, be able to travel statewide, and perform activities associated with conducting programs.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Excellent administrative and program management skills.  
  • Evidence of ability to develop research projects and manage multiple work projects to assure timely completion.  
  • Demonstrated ability to obtain external funding. Experience in collaboration and relationship building.  
  • Promote public understanding and support for Extension and University programs.  
  • Perform as a collegial member of Arizona Cooperative Extension.  
  • Ability to collaborate effectively between public land management agencies and producers for complex issues and problems related to range management.  
  • Understanding and ability to execute various interagency rangeland monitoring and assessment methods.
