Maintenance Worker I - Streets & Alley Division (Full Time)

Public Works Dept.

The Village of Skokie is seeking qualified candidates for the position of full time Maintenance Worker I, in our Public Works Department.  As part of a work crew, you will repair and maintain the Village’s water lines, water mains, inlet tiles, sewer tiles, restrictors & regulators, manholes, and fire hydrants; Clean and maintain holding tanks; Operate departmental equipment including dump truck, Vac-All, jet truck, backhoe, loader, and television truck; Interpret water & sewer infrastructure maps to identify isolation points for water mains and flow directions for sewer mains; May also assist in Village-wide snow removal efforts; Restore street & parkway excavations; Required to work in confined spaces; Clean, wash and assist with routine maintenance of vehicles; Must be available for occasional overtime and to respond to off-hour emergencies; Performs other work-related duties, as assigned.

High School diploma or equivalent required; Must possess a valid Driver’s License, with the ability to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 90 days of employment; Demonstrated knowledge of proper trenching & excavation techniques; Must be in good physical condition and be able to work in all outdoor weather conditions; Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and the public; Practical experience with tools used for maintenance and general construction helpful; Must be able to follow all safety rules of the Village; Individuals in this position are subject to random alcohol and drug testing; Physical examination and drug testing required prior to employment.

The starting hourly pay range for this position is $30.12 - $31.65 (DOQ). Rate increases may be awarded based on performance and after the successful completion of a 24-month probation period.
