JOB TITLE: Pest & Predator Field Operator
SUPERVISED BY: Lincoln County Board of Commissioners

JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for:
• All aspects of pest and predator control in Lincoln County with special emphasis on administration of Lincoln County's Black Tailed Prairie Dog Management Plan.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Is responsible for work of considerable skill, in supervising administering all aspects of Lincoln County's Black Tailed Prairie Dog Management Plan as well as pest and predator control on an as needed basis as requested by Lincoln County Landowners. Will be responsible for fielding calls and inquiries from the public as well as dealing with the public in a professional and courteous manner. Will be responsible for all administrative duties, including proper permitting, licensing and coordination with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and other local, state and federal authorities. Will be solely responsible for application of pesticides and poisons as well as controlling pest and predator populations through the use of traps, snares, firearms or other approved control methods.

RESPONSIBLE FOR:

• Methods and materials to be used
• Seasonal control of Black Tailed Prairie Dogs as well as regular control of other pests and predators
• Planning and coordination of all Black Tailed Prairie Dog Management Plan functions and responsibilities
• Ensuring that proper safety precautions are developed and uniformly taken at all times and that all risks to the public are kept to absolute zero while collateral risks to livestock and non-targeted wildlife are kept to a minimum
• Coordinating with the Lincoln County Weed Superintendent and Highway Superintendent as to areas in potential need of pest or predator control
• Engaging with the residents of Lincoln County to promote the pest and predator control services offered by Lincoln County and educate the public about the same
• Engaging with the residents of Lincoln County to plan and coordinate response plans for pest and predator control as requested by Lincoln County residents
• Developing, implementing and managing a reasonable fee structure for the services performed by the Pest & Predator Control Field Operator and coordinating with the County Attorney's office when issues with collections or other public facing legal issues arise
• Supervises and participates in a continuing program of preventive maintenance on all equipment
• Prepares work reports, orders, stocks and inventories all materials needed for field control operations
• Monitors use of all materials
• Safely and securely transporting and using firearms
• Receives and handles public contacts in a professional and courteous manner
• Maintains records and reports of operations and comply with all public records requests
• Planning, preparing and adhering to an annual budget
• Performs related work as required

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High School Graduate/GED - Required
At least 3 years experience in Predator & Pest Control - Preferred

CREDENTIALS:
Current Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act ("FIFRA") commercial applicator card and the appropriate sub-category endorsements - Required

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Knowledge of methods, material and practices used in the control of pests and predators, both native and non-native to Nebraska and Lincoln County
• Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions involved in pest and predator control
• Skill in safe and efficient operation and handling of pesticides, poisons, traps, snares and firearms
• Legal ability to possess firearms as well as the skill to safely utilize firearms in control operations
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to schedule, direct and keep accurate records
• Ability to clearly communicate directions, relay instructions, and provide constructive feedback in a timely and professional manner to the Board of Commissioners and the public
• Ability to work independently without need of direct oversight while providing quality service
• Ability to prepare and adhere to an annual budget

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Traverse unlevel, overgrown, steep and/or rugged terrain frequently
• Lift and carry tools and materials necessary for predator & pest control (up to 75lbs) regularly
• Safely carry and operate firearms, including long guns and handguns regularly
