Development Scientist I/II, Next Generation Sequencing at New England Biolabs, Inc. in Ipswich, Massachusetts

Job Description:

We are hiring two Development Scientists to work on goal-oriented projects within a dynamic group of scientists at New England Biolabs creating reagents for the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) product line. The successful candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment while enjoying a culture that fosters personal and professional growth through creativity, teamwork, respect and responsibility.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Develop next-generation sequencing sample prep methods, both by utilizing standard molecular biology processes and creating novel solutions


  • Collaborate with colleagues across the company (research, production, marketing, etc.) to successfully develop and launch products


  • Coordinate and support all stages of the transition of new products from development to product release, such as validating processes, establishing quality controls, setting launch dates, coordinating beta testing, writing protocols, and aiding marketing and business development groups in preparation of product launches


  • Provide technical support for existing products


  • Stay current with market needs and products


  • Actively engage with customers to address technical needs or concerns


  • Present findings to internal and external customers/collaborators at conferences


Required Qualifications and Experience:


  • PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology or related field


  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with Next Generation Sequencing


  • Research and development experience with epigenetics including NGS library preparation


  • Scientific enthusiasm and integrity


  • Strong data analysis and molecular biology experience


  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects


  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills


  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, in a fast-paced environment


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, in both formal and informal settings


  • Customer support experience and mindset preferred
