SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Behavioral Health Services, the Peer Recovery Support Specialist ultimately serves as a patient advocate. You will be relied on to provide clients with resourceful information and support while adhering to treatment plans in a variety of settings. The Peer Support Specialist will model competence to their clients, through their own personal experiences, in successful self-recovery. You will act as a subject matter expert while performing a wide range of tasks to support clients.

HOW YOU'LL SUCCEED:


  • Build friendly and positive patient relationships by using knowledge, skills, and training from Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist training to model, coach, support and advocate with patient's.

  • Provide advocacy and outreach on behalf of patients in all situations where patients are unable to advocate for themselves due to symptoms of mental illness.

  • Identify, develop, and access support resources for patients to increase their success in community integration and community inclusion.

  • Create strong relationships and outstanding one-on-one patient care services by assessing patient's personal accomplishments, strengths and challenges in order to achieve their stated goals.

  • Partner closely with patients in self-management of critical or crisis situations.

  • Assist with the preparation and recording of the peer support recovery plan, encounter notes, and other documents that verify service delivery in a timely manner according to established quality and regulatory standards.

  • Create a weekly schedule that meets existing program productivity standards and supervision requirements.

  • Ensure that all patient visits are documented in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) immediately.

  • Model your own personal responsibility, self-advocacy, and recovery tools to your patient to help teach and support recovery.

  • Facilitate effective and thorough patient self-review of progress upon each encounter.

  • Represent Signature Health in a professional manner at all times; includes maintenance of appropriate professional appearance as outlined in the dress code policy, and demonstration of respectful interactions with patients and team members.

  • Comply with all agency policies and procedures.

  • Maintain all aspects of HIPAA, promoting patient confidentiality and right to privacy.

  • May be required to perform remote services as determined by Signature Health.

  • Adherence and completion of compliance training provided by Signature Health.

  • Responsible for and completes all productivity/documentation requirements.

  • Participate in all assigned staff meetings and staff development programs.

  • Demonstrate appropriate attendance and punctuality in adherence with Signature Health policies.

  • Other duties as assigned.



Requirements

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:


  • High School Diploma required.

  • Peer Recovery Supporter Certification required.

  • Must have personally been in recovery for 2+ years and maintains a recovery program.

  • 2+ years' experience in a behavioral health work environment preferred.

  • Must possess a valid unencumbered Ohio driver's license.

  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the local Mental Health System.

  • Must possess basic computer skills to perform job duties including desktop computing, email, time sheet management, electronic health records, using Microsoft Office Applications, ADP and other relevant software.

  • Must have basic electronic communication and internet skills to gather information required for the program or program participants.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office/clinical work environment.

  • While hours of operation are generally standard, flexibility to work evenings and extended hours may be required.

  • Requires periods of sitting, standing, telephone, and computer work.

  • Hearing: adequate to hear clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology.

  • Speaking: adequate to speak to clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology.

  • Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.

  • Physical effort required: occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 15 pounds, unassisted.

  • Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens while performing job duties.

  • Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular workday.

  • Sufficient dexterity to operate a PC and other office equipment.
