Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

TranSystems’ Atlanta, GA office seeks a Senior Roadway Designer / CADD Technician to join our growing office.  This person will be a member of our roadway design team and will assist in various tasks including plan preparation, quantity calculations, geometric design, pavement marking/signing, drainage design, traffic studies, traffic signal design, public involvement, report writing, specifications, cost estimates, roadway lighting, and other related tasks. The individual may also be called on to work closely with other teams on multi-disciplinary projects.  The technician will have the opportunity to work on challenging projects in a unique and dynamic work environment. These positions can be located at the Atlanta, GA office. 

General Duties & Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.


  • Operates computer-aided design (Microstation) system and peripheral equipment to resize or modify integrated circuit designs (artwork).

  • Oversee the entire design process or assist as a technical expert on a specialized design.

  • Utilize diversified design experience to work on complex, concurrent projects.

  • Assess the requirements of a project, break a project into tasks, and work with a Project Manager to determine scope of work, budget, and staffing.

  • Assists in maintaining efficient daily operations by resolving problems of other operators and handling difficult operating tasks.

  • Analyze incoming material and develop drafting methods for most efficient production.

  • Coordinate with code officials and other design professionals when an interpretation or exception to building codes is required.

  • Assist in the education and development of design staff and act as resource for design questions.

  • Confers with engineering and design staff to determine design modifications and enters editing information into computer.

  • Calculates figures to convert design dimensions to resizing dimensions specified for subsequent production processes.

  • Applies specified information to produce graphic representation (hard copy) of design for review and approval by engineering and design staff.

  • Works from sketches, notes, and other input material to produce computer generated graphs, charts, overlays, and completed drawings.

  • Follows company standard Microstation procedures for layering and standard drawing procedures for sheet layout. Suggest improvements to standard procedures.

Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:


  • At least 12 years related roadway design experience

  • High School Diploma/GED required

  • Microstation, InRoads, and OpenRoads working knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Associates degree or higher in CAD or engineering design

  • 15-30 years of related experience

  • No relocation or stipend assistance

  • The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, construction and field assignments can be severe (i.e. Airport noise, inside factories, construction equipment, jack hammers, etc).

  • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk or hear, and drive a car. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
