Assistant Professor Department of Psychology College of Arts and Sciences 

Western Michigan University invites applications for the position of tenure track Assistant Professor to join our Clinical Psychology program in the Department of Psychology. The Clinical Psychology program provides generalist scientist-practitioner training that is decidedly cognitive-behavioral and contextual behavioral in orientation. Candidates should have a background in behavioral science and expertise in evidence-based therapies. The specific area of research focus is open but should show clear clinical relevance. Target populations of interest may include youth and/or adults, with preference given to those whose work is directed toward diverse and underserved communities. Major Responsibilities: 

• Develop and teach clinical graduate courses and contribute to the in-person / online undergraduate curriculum
• Supervise student therapists in our training clinic
• Establish an independent research laboratory and mentor doctoral student research
• Chair and serve on thesis and dissertation committees Develop a productive line of research as evidenced by seeking extramural funding and publishing in high quality peer-reviewed journals
• Provide appropriate service to the department, college and university
• Other duties as determined by program and department chair

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Evidence of commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity through publications, teaching, and/or service in applied or academic settings Clinical training from an APA-accredited (or equivalent) doctoral program or expected completion of clinical training from an APA-accredited (or equivalent) doctoral program prior to the start date for the position.
• License eligible or doctoral limited license eligible in Michigan
• Ability to teach core clinical courses in the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program curriculum
• Ability to supervise clinical services across the broad range of presenting problems commonly treated in our outpatient clinic
• Record of peer-reviewed publications in an area of behavioral science
• Expertise in evidence-based behavioral practices
• A doctoral degree in psychology awarded by August 14, 2025.

Demonstrated multicultural competence and ability to contribute to diversity initiatives in Program/Department/University

• Experience teaching in person and/or online

Department: The Psychology Department includes 14 full-time faculty members. The department offers a comprehensive undergraduate program with over 750 majors and 250 minors, as well as over 125 graduate students. Renowned for its behavioral orientation, the department offers doctoral degrees in clinical psychology (accredited by the American Psychological Association, next site visit 2027), behavior analysis (accredited by the Association for Behavior Analysis International), and industrial/organizational behavior management, as well as masters degrees in behavior analysis (accredited by the Association for Behavior Analysis) and industrial/organizational behavior management. The Clinical Program: The doctoral program is scientist-practitioner in orientation with training that emphasizes evidence-based practices, particularly those that are cognitive-behavioral and contextual behavioral in nature. We train generalists whose coursework and clinical experiences include both adult and child populations with specialization occurring through research and advanced practicum placements. Based on the early professional benchmarks achieved by our students, an independent publication identified us as a hidden gem in the clinical training community (Callahan et al., 2013). The Clinical Program has been accredited by APA since 1991 and was recently re-accredited with our next site visit to occur in 2027.
