Job Description:

Position OverviewAssist students in some or all of the following courses: MATH 104/125/126/127, CHEM 130/150/170, EPHX 210, and PHSX 212. Tutors are expected to have a strong foundation in MATH courses, but preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate a strong aptitude in more than one subject area.

Tutors will manage small weekly study groups, track attendance, and provide general support to participants.

Tutors will lead, proctor, and assist with administration and supervision of practice exams offered periodically around the common exam schedule throughout the semester.

Other duties as assigned by supervisor.Required Qualifications1. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must:


  • have been enrolled in no less that 6 hours in the past spring semester or

  • be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or

  • be enrolled in summer session or

  • be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be for undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)***

2. Must have taken the classes being hired to tutor (or equivalents) and passed with grades of B or better.
3. Ability to work a consistent weekly schedule.
4. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0Preferred Qualifications

  1. Have taken the classes being hired to tutor (or equivalents) and passed with a grade of A or better. Proficiency in multiple subjects.

  2. Prior experience tutoring, teaching, coaching, or supporting peers.

  3. Excellent communication skills and fluency in English as evidenced by application materials and interview.

This position will tutor specifically in courses foundational to engineering in math, physics, and chemistry. Qualified candidates will have mastery of this core content with a B grade or better.


At the interview, applicants will be asked to teach a three to five-minute lesson on the subjects they wish to tutor, and applicants will need to know their general weekly availability.
