Job Description
Position Overview
As an Offshore Electrical Project Engineer, you will assist with the electrical design and evaluation of commercial and utility-scale offshore wind projects in development for the Invenergy's target markets throughout the world, followed by technical supervision during project execution in the construction and commissioning phase. These developments include Leading Light Wind connecting to New Jersey (leadinglightwind.com) and Even Keel Wind connecting to California (evenkeelwind.invenergy.com).
Responsibilities:
Electrical design
Manage engineering consultants and contractors specialized in electrical design for offshore projects
Perform conceptual studies such as ampacity, electrical loss, and power flow to determine project design characteristics for projects in development
Work in collaboration with the Offshore Electrical Engineering Manager and EYA & Siting Engineer to optimize the inter-array cable design
Coordinate design efforts for the export cables of offshore wind farms
Prepare and supervise technical documentation for requisitions and solicitations to be used with contractors and other third parties
Liaise with OEMs, technologists, and manufacturers, to adapt designs according to the best industry practices and most recent design trends and products
Optimize cable sizing in collaboration with consultants and manufacturers
Specify and evaluate equipment and review/evaluate proposals in collaboration with consultants
Coordinate and optimize the design of offshore substations
Establish the required values and parameters for the electrical design to be collected during the offshore geophysical and geotechnical campaign in collaboration with the Offshore G&G Engineering Manager
Liaise with the transmission group to get technical requirements at the point of interconnection, including the onshore interconnection transmission line and related substations
Work in collaboration with the development team to deconflict the nearshore area and the shore approach for the export cable
Work and collaborate with the commercial and finance teams to provide necessary cost modeling inputs, and collaborate on cost optimization
Coordinate design according to the recommendations provided by the certified verification agent (CVA)
Coordinate electrical design for effective and efficient installation during offshore campaign
Coordinate work with other areas inside the organization as follows:
Procurement
Provide technical documentation package for SOIs, RFPs, RFQs or any other
Participate in weekly calls with OEMs to support in a technical manner
Establish technical requirements in discussions with contractors and manufacturers
Evaluate contractors' technical proposals
Permitting and real estate
Collaborate with the real state team to coordinate efforts for rights-of-way and easements
Collaborate with the permitting team to prepare the required documentation package to secure permits
Construction
Work with other groups in the organization to optimize site design before construction starts
Collaborate along project execution to clarify technical queries and other questions
Assist and participate during commissioning
Attend FATs for major project equipment
Engineering best practice
Collaborate in in-house technical documentation for the offshore engineering team, including best practices, Owner's requirements, amongst others
Collaborate creating internal tools & templates for offshore electrical design
Explore new software needs as necessary
Attend relevant external training, workshops and conferences
Support internal trainings and workshops, as required by the company
Provide periodic reports to management as needed
EPC&I contractors
Liaise with EPC contractors to understand design concerns and constraints, providing solutions to those
Coordinate periodic calls and meetings with contractors to organize work in the most efficient way
Analyze risks proactively, providing solutions for those
Monitor project activities and progress from main office
Analyze progress reports to correct deviations and deficiencies
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering or equivalent.
3+ years experience in renewable energy, utilities, offshore oil & gas or the offshore industry.
A valid driver's license and the ability to travel up to 25%.
Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Skills:
5 years of experience in the renewable energy industry, offshore oil & gas or the offshore industry in general.
Direct experience in offshore wind engineering or offshore oil&gas industry
Experience in HVDC and GIS (SF6) technologies
Experience with HV submarine or underground cable including cable sizing studies
Experience with detailed electrical modeling in ASPEN, PSSE, DIgSILENT, or similar
Site experience in projects under construction
Experience with management and coordination of Marine Warranty Surveyors
Experience in the use of international electrical standards
Experience managing interfaces between contractors
Be an effective leader and communicator - strong verbal skills are required
High degree of integrity and understanding of ethical industry standards
International travels may be required.
Salary Range
$100,000 - $115,000
