Job Description:

The salary for this position starts at $16.00 hourly. We take into consideration an individuals background and experience in determining salary; therefore, base pay offered may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of other benefits and earned time off that vary depending on part-time or full-time status.
Job Summary:
The Youth Instructor is responsible for leading youth classes in the areas of Arts and Humanities including but not limited to dance, art, babysitting, music, cooking, sports and language. The incumbent will instruct quality classes and provide excellent customer service to members and program participants in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes wellness and learning in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
Essential Functions:
Punctual and prepared to instruct participants in class subject.
Plan progressive classes in the specialty area while using the provided curriculum, class outline, and terminology. Observe and communicate individual progress with participants and parents including positive encouragement, direction and announcements.
Motivate, engage and guide class and program participation.
Set up and take down class equipment and report equipment problems.
Ensure safe and effective classes; responding to and reporting any accidents or incidents.
Assist in any special events/programs as required.
Relationships:
This position reports to the Program Director who reports to the Branch Executive. The incumbent must learn and use participant names and encourage interaction when possible. Work closely with other YMCA Team Members and program participants.
Qualifications:
Required
Minimum age 18
Must have formal training, knowledge and experience in the applicable specialty area in which teaching
Demonstrated customer service and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to individually lead a class and motivate participants
Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations
Ability to set up, move and store class equipment
Preferred
Experience teaching young children, youth and/or teens
Ability to pass a drivers road test for YMCA vehicles and trailers.
Upon hire, completion of YMCA provided Motor Vehicle and or Department of Transportation Insurance Training.
Work Conditions:
Ability to lead assigned classes and sessions, demonstrating exercise techniques and perform associated physical activities.
Ability to stand on feet majority of work shift.
Stretch, bend, and lift up to 50lbs and move heavy equipment on a daily basis.
Ability to recognize and react calmly and effectively in the event of an emergency.
