Pay Grade/Pay Range: Minimum: $48,600 - Midpoint: $60,800 (Salaried E7)



Department/Organization: 750501 - Alabama Water Institute (AWI)



Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm



Job Summary: The Education Outreach Coordinator develops, manages, and implements quality educational programs for students, families, and adult audiences.



Additional Department Summary: This position will be within the Alabama Water Institute (AWI). AWI is one of five University of Alabama research institutes. AWI serves as a catalyst for interdisciplinary collaboration across the University's various colleges, uniting engineers, computer scientists, biologists, social scientists, economists, and more to tackle the pressing water challenges faced by Alabama and the world. AWI-affiliated researchers specialize in water security and quality, remote sensing, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, biodiversity, watershed management and human health through synergies with AWI research programs, including the NOAA Cooperative Institute for Research to Operations in Hydrology, the Global Water Security Center, and the CONSERVE Research Group.


The Education Outreach Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Education and Outreach Program Director to support the implementation of new and existing educational programs that support the mission of the Alabama Water Institute and its research programs. Specifically, the Education Outreach Coordinator will: support and work with AWI research program leads and faculty from interdisciplinary backgrounds to help build and maintain educational and experiential programs for all-levels of students (i.e., K-12, Undergraduate, and Graduate), including:


1. Managing and coordinating graduate and undergraduate research programs,
2. Creating and coordinating internship and other experiential opportunities,
3. Creating and coordinating K-12 education activities,
4. Organizing student activities (e.g., seminars, field trips),
5. Facilitating professional development training and mentorship for students,
6. Managing internal communications and data, and
7. Documenting processes for program execution and evaluation.


The incumbent will be expected to foster a positive environment, work collaboratively with a team of faculty and students, and offer creative and impactful ideas to help support AWI's Education and Outreach efforts.



Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of educational work experience; OR Master's degree and some educational work experience.



Skills and Knowledge: Strong leadership, facilitation, interpersonal, and collaboration skills. Positive attitude. Good communication skills, both written and verbal. Also required are computer skills, not limited to spreadsheet applications, personal computing networks, and internet software. Must have the ability to work effectively with groups under high levels of activity. The incumbent must be detail oriented and manage details to meet deadlines. Anticipates and plans proactively for known deadlines and annual cycles.



Preferred Qualifications: An advanced degree, master's or doctorate, in education or another discipline related to STEM education, higher education, water, or environmental sciences. Career interest in practicing the pedagogy of undergraduate and graduate education and water-related scholarship. Three to five years of relevant experience, preferably with some prior experience coordinating education programs.
